Best bet for an affordable hotel in Florence
I’ve been visiting Florence every few years for decades now and somehow this was my first time staying at Hotel Collodi. Of all the more reasonably priced hotels in central Florence this has got to be the best. It is very well run with a delightful staff. The rooms are modest in size but very well designed. Our room had a charming ceiling fresco that reminded us every moment that we were in Florence. The shower was hot and forceful, and the bed very comfortable. Breakfast was pleasant and efficiently run. And of course the location can’t be beat - with all major museums and churches easily walkable, and the best restaurant in town, Trattoria Mario, literally just around the corner. You really can’t ask for more than that.

A decent hotel in a great location, but noisy
The couple who run the hotel were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast had a limited number of items, but they were kept constantly replenished and were perfectly suitable for our requirements. The hotel was clean and well kept, although despite there being signs in the bathroom indicating that towels should be left hung up if we were happy to reuse them (which we were), it did appear that the towels were replaced every day. The toilet was a bit difficult to flush and it sometimes took several attempts to get the mechanism to work. The main downside of the hotel was the noise, not just outside - vehicles and people making noise until late in the evening and starting up again early in the morning - but also from inconsiderate other hotel guests, who talked loudly and slammed doors at all times of the night. A 'polite notice' from the hotel management might have helped draw this to people's attention. We were also rather surprised that two dogs were allowed in the breakfast room while other people were eating, which didn't feel very hygienic. These gripes aside, the hotel is in a great location and served our needs perfectly.
