Stay at Rho hotel
The location was great and the people at the front desk were very efficient and nice. They had a nice breakfast each morning, but two of the breakfast workers were rude. I loved our corner room with huge windows on two sides. It was cool out and you could open them for a nice breeze. There was not air conditioning and I did not see how to control the heat. They were working on the alley outside and usually started working around 7:00-7:15 AM each morning. This was not the hotels fault, but it was noisy. I would also be awakened by noisy (partying) guests a few times per night. It is an old hotel and the doors slamming made a lot of noise.

Great location but...
Great location, but if you are driving to the hotel, be prepared for road closures, streets closed to cars, and dug up streets that make it difficult if not impossible to drive up to the entrance where you will find the Rho free parking garage. The hotel itself was comfortable enough, though the room was poorly renovated, even with what looked like new (cheap) furniture. Cracks in plaster ceiling, and loud thumping of persons in room above. Wi-Fi was unreliable and often very slow. Room amenities limited and cheap. Staff were friendly and helpful, though occasionally a little officious. Breakfast was plentiful. But, can't beat the location, right on the Dam, close to just about everything, and an enormous array of eateries in every direction. Great shopping too. Getting to the airport not simple. Best to take the hotel's recommended car service at 45 Euros.

My first trip to Amsterdam and the Rho Hotel
The room was OK. I am use to American standard. Bed was hard. Chairs in the room were not comfortable. Not something you could relax in. The TV only had a few channels and the remote worked sometimes. The room was well serviced. Room was given clean linens every morning. The bathroom freebies were just packets of lotion and a buddy bath gel. Nothing more, no conditioner or anything else like a shower cap. The staff was very courteous and easy to work with. The building is old so it doesn't have handrails at the front steps which make it had to get in and out of the hotel if you have the need of them for assistance. The breakfast was nice. There were lots of options available. The location was great one block of the main Street going through the city center. Lots of restaurants just down the alley. Some sit down, others order and go. The tram is,5 or less, minutes away which allows you to go all over the city easily. If you are staying for several days I would suggest you get a longer use tram ticket upon your arrival. I believe these are available at the Central station. Use the Dam location to access the hotel easily. If you have never been here in Amsterdam before, like myself, beware that you must watch out for all vehicles including bicycles as they have the right of way and will not stop for you. It was a great location but I would rather have had some things in the room to make it more comfortable especially for the cost.

Great hotel - convenient, comfortable, good food
This was a great hotel. The staff was friendly, the room was very nice, and the breakfast was plentiful and very tasty. The hotel is right off Dam Square and so it was convenient to all sights. We recommend this hotel.
