Small and narrow but good
This hotel offers a central location and easy access to bicycles, trams and busses. Walking distance to most things including work for me. Friendly staff and nice breakfast. Quiet side street makes a difference.

Good location
We enjoyed our stay. Our room was small but satisfactory. Staff was very friendly. With only 28 rooms the people at the front desk knew us by the end of our 3-day stay. This is not a fancy 5-star hotel but is perfectly suitable for more modest budgets.

Excellent location for museums and canal rides
I am so glad I booked this wonderful 28 room boutique-like hotel and it has an elevator. The building was built in 1906. It is family owned. Alex, co-owner said that his parents started the hotel in 1982. He joined the business in 2000. This hotel is spotless. The service is wonderful. Believe me, they aim to please. Breakfast is typical Dutch and is complimentary. There is also excellent and free WiFi with a communal computer if needed. My group played dominoes in room where there is a small bar and where breakfast is served. It was allowed. It was fun and we weren't bothering anyone. Rooms are small but everything you need is there. I appreciate the armoire with hanging space and also shelves. If your room is at the front of the building and your window is open, it can be noisy however, mostly during the day when people are usually out touring. No A/C however, the room is comfortable and there is window and transom that opens enough for fresh air. A couple blocks away are very nice restaurants. Also, many of the major museums are close by plus the canal is about 200 yards away. Large chain hotels can be very nice but I think that staying in a hotel like the Nicolaas Witsen adds to the trip experience. I look forward to staying at this hotel within the next couple of years with another group.

Rembrandt, canals, old city architecture
Lovely small hotel just on a quite street on a borderline of the old city center. Friendly staff and a clean but somewhat simplistically decorated room. The place is in close proximity to the Rembrandt square with its famous Night Watchers sculpture which looked to me as a center for a lively evening entertainment and arts displays at weekends. The net of canals is all around - those who like city walking will love the opportunity to walk along the canals and enjoy fairy-tale architecture of old European city all around you.

A hidden gem
Located on a quiet side street, this is my second stay at this hotel. I will stay here again whenever I am in Amsterdam. The location is superb - close to museums, restaurants, unique shopping and public transportation. The staff is friendly and very helpful. You can purchase museum/transportation tickets at the desk, which is a real time saver. My room was small, but it was fine for my needs.
