It was soso. They did not change the sheets or the towels and the soap they put in is liquid and serves as a shampoo.

3 girls from California
The stay at this Hostel was pleasant although we ended up staying up stairs at another named Hostel because something went wrong with the reservation, we did not stay at the Oporto but they were run by the same people. Any problems we had were fixed immediately and we did have one or two. We had a room for three, private bathroom was very small but we had a bathroom with a tub shower combo so no complaint. Just want to advise there is no elevator in this Hostel so be prepared to carry your bags up stairs although the Mr. at the desk was very, very nice about helping the girls with luggage. Very close to everything in the "downtown" area if you will. Quite Hostel would stay there again and would recommend it as well. The hostal was very close to Government buildings so that was interesting. Stayed 5 nights While visiting the lovely city of Madrid.

The room was affordable and not like a hostel; instead it was a private room with a private bathroom.

For walking tours . . . perfect location
My "5" rating for the neighborhood is really for "convenient location." You go up the street and you're at the main square in 10 minutes, where many of the restaurants and stores are located. You go down the street 5 minutes and you come out right next to one of the art museums. The rest are no more than a 10-15 minute walk away. And straight across the street is the 300 ac. Retiro Park good for shade on a hot day (as the other side of Madrid has almost no trees, unlike the tree-lined streets I had gotten used to in Barcelona. It would be nice if they had a plug for the bathtub but if that's the biggest problem for the day . . . who cares. Oh, by the way ... he gives you 3 keys: for the street entrance, the one to the lobby and the last for your room. Might as well throw the 1st two away . . . always unlocked but the manager's room is adjacent to the lobby so I never worried about security.
