Hôtel Albe Bastille, Paris
Exceptional
Great deal on this place: average size for Paris budget hotel (bigger, even, than some I've seen!) but great charm and comfy pillows. Plus, windows on inner courtyard kept the room quiet and peaceful. Would very much recommend.

Second time, there won't be a third
Second time staying here and I definitely wouldn't rate it as fabulous. The room is small which is fine and there is a kettle provided for hot drinks but it's very hot (even in October) and too noisy to keep the window open. What really put me off was the night porter and his personal remarks plus the lack of housekeeping/maintenance. Two of the lamps in the tiny room had blown out light bulbs which you'd think Housekeeping would check on. When I called down to tell the front desk, he told me to come down and he'd give me a bulb to change it myself. After a long day walking around Paris I wasnt up for doing THEIR job. I stayed one night at another hotel closer to the Gare and I'll be returning there not here next year.

Nice location in the 12th
My room had a juliette balcony overlooking the rue de charenton. which I really appreciated. Near Marché d'Aligre.

Poor
Wouldn't Recommend
The receptionist "upgraded" me to a ground floor room, probably because she tried to give it to someone else and they refused it because of the awful smell coming from the shower drain. It was disgusting. I kneeled on the ground to pick something up and there was dirt all over my legs. The tile floors hide a lot of dirt but they were filthy. I said something to the receptionist but she said that the hotel was fully booked and she could mention the smell and the floors to the housekeeping but since I was only there for one night and leaving early the next day there was nothing I could do. She tried to help by dousing my room with room spray but that didn't help. Suffice it to say, I did not sleep well and all I wanted was a good night sleep. I was happy to leave for my flight the next morning. I will never stay here again when I visit Paris.
