Great place to stay in Rome
Great hotel to stay. Due to the flight delay, we had to arrive at hotel one hour after the closing hours of front desk. But our host, Anna, arranged all the odds in very nice and professional way. Hotel location was good, very close to Vatican. Hotel staffs were very friendly. We enjoyed the stay. Not but the latest, breakfast was very good with a caring chef.

Rooftop Terrace is a Dream
Wonderful, wonderful hotel. Like having our own apartment, walking distance from the Vatican. Staff is wonderful, and work very hard to please all their guests. Made us feel like part of their family with wonderful cookout on their amazing terrace, with free barbecue and wine from the owners' vineyard. Wonderful breakfasts on the amazing rooftop terrace, overlooking the dome of St. Peter's Basilica. Gated grounds very safe. Amazing place. Great place to relax in the evenings, with own family room and kitchen, and flowered balconies overlooking other flowered balconies of surrounding buildings.

Like house sitting for my Grandfather.
Overall, I was disappointed in the Aurelia residence. I will start with the positives. The front desk was excellent. Very helpful, kind and fun. The check in process was organized and efficient. Now for the bad: Location: This is an apartment in a large complex. It is out of the way from everything except Vatican City. We took the bus to get everywhere. It sits between a fairly well traveled road and railroad tracks. There is noise throughout the day and night, either from passing people, cars or trains which could easily be heard inside. Cleanliness: There was a terrible smell which made me think I was visiting my grandfather's house. Not pleasant. I opened all the windows but the smell remained. The apartment: Old. I felt like I was staying at my grandfather's house. Old kitchen, old tiles, old stained wallpaper, old area rugs with a burn from an iron. This was interesting because there was no iron in the place. The stove required a handheld igniter which provided a spark to light the gas. There was only air conditioning in the two bedrooms. The rooftop terrace: This could have been great but the pigeons ruined it. They had the run of the place and I needed to swat them away numerous times during my breakfast. If I was being kind, I would give it 2 stars. If they renovated the entire building, I would say the noise/location still limit it to 4 star potential.

Residing at the Residence
Had a great time. I really enjoyed the wine tasting event after a long day of adventure. The people were nice too. The only problem was check out but that was resolved.

Nice place close to the Vatican
We picked the place due to its proximity to the Vatican. It is an easy 10 minute walk. The sidewalk right by the hotel is a challenge, but it's a big city, so such things are expected. The staff was superb, the breakfast was great (on the rooftop!), and the place was very spacious. Yes, the train tracks are close, but we were used to the buzzing of a big city, so it did not bother us much. Overall, we had a great time, and we'd definitely recommend it to others. The only thing I want to point out (which has nothing to do with the hotel, but may be a consideration for some) is that if you want to see the downtown area, you may need to walk a lot (30-35 minutes from the hotel): the buses that go there are terribly overcrowded. But it's Rome, so walking is suggested anyway.
