Don't miss the train!!!!!
First of all, it's a quaint hotel with all the right furnishings and accoutrements to to take you back to the 19th century. There is no ramp for wheelchairs at the side of the hotel with the coche-portiere. I was somewhat concerned about this; however, the bellman had our luggage upstairs in just a few minutes. There are great eating places all around the hotel, as well as a lot of historical sights and sites.

Historic hotel but the housekeeping let us down
Hotel Palmer would have gotten 5 stars except that housekeeping forgot to clean our room. They made the bed up, gave us some new towels, and that's all they did. The sink wasn't cleaned; no vacuuming; no new Keurig coffee pods or cream; no clean coffee mugs. They took the $5 tip and one of our robes. - Also, when we checked in we weren't told about the included breakfast which we didn't find out about until Day 2 of our stay. -- Otherwise, the main building of General Palmer is a charming, Victorian era, historic hotel which is clean (other than our room - see above). We stayed in the main building so I have no idea what the other buildings are like. The bed, mattress and sheets were very comfortable. The vintage 2-person elevator was cool. The staff were friendly. The hotel is decorated with antique furniture and historic memorabilia. The location is great (other than for the group of boisterous drunks who were hooting and hollering after at 1 a.m. after closing time) - restaturants and shops are nearby and the Durango-Silverton is next door. wi-fi was good. The coffee and chocolate chip cookies in the lobby - free for the taking - were a nice touch. The walls are a bit thin and the windows allow are a fair amount of sound so the hotel isn't exactly quiet.
