A hostile hostel fronting as a 3 star hotel
This hotel is clearly a former hostel that is currently in the process of converting to a hotel. There was loud construction daily. The “lobby” consisted of an angry employee at a podium and a dirty closet. Don’t you dare think about checking in a minute before checkin at 1400 because your belongings will be locked in aforementioned dirty closest until then. Breakfast was frozen and the area was quite dirty, most dishes had flies on it. The whole hotel had a smell of “not enough blue liquid in the port o pot” mixed with “working girl body spray”. The door lock broke every single day and it literally took an act of god to get said employee off the podium to help. Also all decorations are from ikea dorm line collection HOWEVER it was missing the $8 full length mirror... you don’t need to know that you look like crap, the hotels odor is one with you now. I will give the cleaning services credit as she did a nice job with the room daily. The whole bathroom converts into an aqua race every time you use it between the water flinging all over and the electrical buzzing in the walls you will be club ready. There was hot water and good air conditioning and that’s the end of the amenities. There were so many nicer hotels especially for the money. If you don’t want to pay hotel prices to live like a college freshmen in a hostile hostel I advise you stay elsewhere. The beggars out front would probably lend you their spot for half the cost of this hotel.

Poor
Our back pack was stolen right at the lobby desk as we were checking in. The hotel should have better security and should have warned us of the pick pockets and thieves that surrounded La Rambla. The security video showed the thieves taking our stuff as we were checking in. The lobby is small and there was no effort by the hotel to prevent strangers from walking right in. My wife lost several hundred dollars worth of makeup, a $100 mirror, and many Trish McEvoy makeup brushes and her eye medication. The thieves were working in and around the hotel. Another of our traveling couples had their passports and identity papers stolen while they were checking in. The hotels only response was to file a police report. We later found out from many locals that this area is crawling with pickpockets and thieves. The staff should have known this and made some sort of effort to keep these people out of the lobby. There is absolutely no security. The security video showed the thieves walking right up to the lobby desk as customers were buys checking in. The room did not have adequate sound proofing. The noise of La Rambla made it impossible to get a good nights sleep. Also, no wash clothes, only hand towels. Overall, a terrible experience.

Exceptional
Great Hotel in the Heart of Ramblas
We were greeted by courteous staff upon arrival and every day thereafter. Our standard room was a bit small, but it was very clean with a great view of Ramblas directly below. Our double bed was a real full double bed, thankfully, and not two twin beds put together under the sheets (a lot of European countries do this to save money - really annoying). We were close to the elevator on the third floor (highest floor), which was very convenient. Our room had excellent AC, but we barely used it due to the chilly outdoor winter climate in Barcelona. There was a mini bar/fridge included in the room, which worked pretty well to keep things cold; it won't freeze an ice-pack, though. The bathroom was clean and open with a sliding door (there is no lock). The hotel was in a very safe area directly next to many restaurants, food/information booths, pharmacies, markets, and places to shop. Our stay here was phenomenal. We will definitely be staying here again and recommending it to friends and family!

Exceptional
I went alone and it we was so comforting! Staff was very friendly and informative. You cannot get a better location. The train is right in front of the hotel and you are in the middle of the central area! The rooms are very modern and bed is comfortable. The doors keep all noise away, as I was on the avenue. I was able to sleep without excessive noise. Definitely recommend to stay and will be back!

Very Good
The staff was outstanding
The staff went out of their way to help us older Americans who do not speak Spanish. We were able to check in 3 hours early. They helped us get tour tickets and find good places to walk to for dinner. And they printed out our boarding passes and ordered a cab before daylight to get us to the airport on time. Location is great, mid Rambles and right in front of the amazing market. Room was a bit small, and the bed not too comfy, but their helpfulness more than made up for it.
