cute, great location, but musty rooms
The hotel is really cute, in a great area, and the actual rooms have great acoustical privacy. However, the rooms are quite musty! I also had a bit of an issue with the service. I booked two rooms (obviously if you book two rooms you are together, no?) and the front desk employee got irritated when I asked him to change one of the rooms so we were on the same floor. I wasn’t asking to be right next door, but at LEAST on the same floor and he made it a big deal saying I should have told them. Ummm, I did tell them when I booked two rooms? They ended up accommodating us but had an attitude which was the only reason they don’t get full marks on service.

Not my favorite hotel stay
I’ve stayed at the London Ace Hotel several times and always had an excellent experience so when I was planning my staycation in nyc, I thought this was the right spot. I ended up changing rooms three times because the first room smelled like mold and was really dark. The second one wasn’t much better. The room I ended up with smelled fine but really looked like an upgraded dorm room. I know that’s a vibe but it wasn’t anything special. I know the Ace vibe isn’t fancy but it felt very thrown together and a little too vintage. The lighting was so dark that it felt like it was disguising things. I love the bath robe - I purchased it in London a few years ago. Front desk staff was more than pleasant. The hotel bar is a great scene. It’s close to where I needed to be. I wouldn’t rush back here.

Unique Property, Great Service. Resort Fee? 😒
Accommodating and friendly service. Easy early check-in was a real life saver after a red eye flight from the west coast. Manager kindly swapped our room for a larger one in the same category (the room we were assigned initially didn’t have the lounge/seating area that was pictured). Overall experience was somewhat soured by the Resort Fee, which they call a Destination Fee; couldn’t recall any perks or amenities we wouldn’t have received at any other property—no pool or rooftop deck/lounge/bar. And during the day, the lobby is more or less a WeWork space, overrun with non-guests on their laptops, hoarding the work tables, sofas and wifi.

Not a first choice
A standard king room was small even by NYC standards. Space that could have been devoted to storage or a second chair was used for a large refrigerator, oversized snack tray, turntable and old vinyls. This reflects the philosophy of the hotel which is to mask its materialism in hipness and ersatz nostalgia. If you are an average or larger person, the shower is less than marginal. Despite several requests the staff was unable to get the tv to work.
