Great location, some sub-standard rooms
I've stayed in this hotel several times over the years and found much to like about it. This time, though, I was disappointed. On booking, I had decided to splurge and take two junior suites, one for my husband and me and one for our friends. We had stayed in a junior suite on the fourth floor a year earlier and had been delighted with the sunny rooms and terrific view of the cathedral spires. I looked forward to treating our friends to a similar pleasant experience. Big mistake. The first-floor rooms were dark, dingy and poorly appointed. The only real windows faced a dark, noisy corridor. The bedside lamps and overhead lights seemed tied to the same switches so it was all or nothing for light. The air conditioner was noisy. Overall, it was poor value for the money we spent. I will return to the hotel because I love the location and the restaurant. But I won't opt for a higher end room again.

Limited parking and noisy
The parking provided by hotel is limited. We came back at night and was told parking is full so we have to do street parking instead. The restaurant in this hotel seems very famous - but not a good place for stay, because rooms are right beside the yard, and can hear the restaurant music and talking etc. It gets pretty noisy at night, while we just need a quiet place to sleep. Service is good though.

Enjoyable low-key hotel in the center of the city
I wish that I had known more about the history of the Meson prior to our visit. I only discovered the age of the property and that it was a former private residence upon arrival! This hotel in a 17th century mansion was perfect for our one-night stay in Valladolid. We loved being able to fully experience the city and culture without a lot of walking/driving. The staff at Meson are exceptional and made our stay very pleasant. The restaurant is very good - especially the breakfast! (My morning meal was of the best meals I had during our entire 8 days in Mexico!) Rooms are basic - with lovely iron beds and nice views of the pool and courtyard. Water pressure was an issue and wi-fi is a little spotty, but given the age of the property and size of the town these were understandable and did not affect our enjoyment. In a nutshell, staying here gave us convenience and the authenticity we were hoping for to be able to fully experience this area and have easy access to explore Chichen Itza, Ek Balam and the city center. The exceptional service and warm, friendly staff made it all the better.

Meson Marques de Sod
The hotel did not live up to its potential in terms of service, food, room, and amenities. I don't hate it, but it could have been better and there are other compelling choices nearby. Also, the coffee in the room is terrible, and apparently not free. The Junior Suite was a bit of a waste, either choose to save $$ or go all the way Big. The Jr. was also on the lower level, though my reservation was for a city AND pool view. They must have meant OR. It was a nice town to stop in though and the hotel was convenient to the enter of town. A meal in the courtyard could be charming and the main town plaza is across the street.
