Disappointed...
A quaint but modest hotel with delusions of grandeur. Has potential but our stay was rather disappointing. I think overall satisfaction very much depends on the room you are given; we were unfortunate enough to be lumbered with the Dorothy room which is tired, in need of decoration, dark and could be cleaner. We also made the mistake of dining in the hotel the evening we arrived. An experience I hope to never repeat. We were offered an 8.30pm table but when we arrived on time we were seated in a separate room and offered drinks. We were given menus and even had our order taken but we were not allowed to enter the half empty dining room until 9.30pm. We only ordered mains which were ridiculously overpriced, gourmet it was not. I've had better super-noodles than the £15 linguine I was served. Apart from the tasteless watery ‘white wine cream sauce’ the bowl was swimming in oil and contained giant chunks of cooked cucumber, I do not recommend anyone ever trying this! The bread rolls we'd been promised on finally being seated arrived after our main courses and were stale. My partner ordered the £25 steak, a price tag the underwhelming meal did not deserve. Breakfast was nice and the staff did go out of their way to help but there is an air of Faulty Towers about the place. After reading the other reviews I can only conclude we were unlucky but this is not a hotel we will be returning to.

Beautiful chilled location, great hosts. Minor point, it would have been nice to have staff on reception, several times I tried to contact someone and there wasnt anyone around and no one answered the phone.

Excellent, quiet & relaxing
Stayed 2 nights due to business. Quiet and relaxing with good size pool and hot tub in garden (you can even phone for a beer to be delivered!). Hotel staff very helpful , even got a free room upgrade. Breakfast very tasty.

Unfortunately a waste of money...
Unfortunately, not what I expected for the amount paid! I stayed in Demelza Poldark suite for a night. Arrived at 4pm after a 5 hour car journey and visit to Eden project - so very tired. The keys for the room were missing. Never mind. Spare keys located. We were shown to our room - ice cold! The heating wasn't switched on and was inoperable. So the owner had to be called in to reprogram it. We waited with our coats on for 1 hour. The fire alarm was low on batteries so kept making a noise in the bedroom. More time taken to replace batteries. Toilet knob missing. One of the sinks blocked. The owner came and to his credit apologised. Having thought he'd fixed the heating, he left and we had some shut eye. Woke up 2 hours later to a freezing cold room. Owner had to be recalled to fix heating again. Issues above can be overlooked if seen as a separate entity but they have a cumulative effect. I paid in excess of £200 expecting a luxurious, comfortable stay. That's not what I received. These things should have been sorted prior to my arrival. They were unprepared. I gave it 2 stars because it's close to the Eden project and breakfast was good. The owner seemed nice but at no point did the staff member we dealt with initially apologised. My recommendation - If you are to pay the high prices asked by this hotel, may be worth looking at a more conventional hotel for luxury.
