Outlander Fanatics - Book Today!
We spent two weeks in Scotland and Falkland village was our favorite. The Covenanter was Mrs. Baird's &B in the film; the village of Falkland was "Inverness". You will recognize the settings instantly. Elizabeth's shop was where Claire mused over never owning a vase; a side street was where Hugh was kicked by an officer, and another where Black Jacks brother lay dying. The locals don't yet fully grasp the impact of Outlander in the US. They nonchalantly talk about meeting the stars, the preparations that went into historical accuracy and watching the filming take place. The staff at Covenanter will tell you that the interior shots were filmed on a set, but we didn't care. We stayed at Mrs. Baird's B&B and looked for Jamie's ghost standing at the fountain.. We stayed in the Apartment (which might be featured in a future episode, we hear). It has its own private BR, living room with sleeper sofa, kitchenette and private entrance. It is a mid-priced clean and neat B&B; don't expect a 5 star hotel. The staff was very welcoming (and still don't fully get the whole Outlander cult), but staying in Frank and Claire's inverness, conversing for 1/2 hour with a local named "Dave", meeting Elizabeth and Miss Daisy in their village shops, exploring the Palace and the entire medieval village of Falkland without ever having to unpark the car are memories of our visit to Scotland that will be with us forever.

Beware bare feet in the bathroom.
Clearly they have put some money into updating the bathroom but it appeared to be an amateurish DIY implementation. The black slate floor in the bathroom was higher than the door threshold, and both the shower stall and toilet were on raised slate platforms. I stubbed my toe twice until I rolled up towels and put them over the raised edges as protection. The shower was also disappointing: very little water pressure and volume and the fixture holding the showerhead was loose so that the head sank, pointing away from the person under it.

For any Outlander fans, this hotel was used as "Frank's Hotel" in the show's first season. The staff is really great about showing you where they filmed. The apartment for 4 where we stayed was used as a green room for the cast and a very interesting place to stay the night, however a small town. Dinner was not open the night we were there and there are few places to get dinner in town but they do have a grocery store in walking distance. The beds were slightly uncomfortable and the pull out couch was not comfortable at all, but we were only there for one night.

over-priced for the night
the "bed" in the front room is a couch which makes into a bed. It was not a sofa bed. It was hard and very uncomfortable. The check-in process was fine. The restaurant was not open for dinner and the pub down the street was less than satisfactory, worse dinner I had so far. Breakfast at the Convenanter was very good.

A jewel in the Scottish countryside
Wow! What an amazing find! We were looking for someplace outside of the city to stay. This place looked cute and as I read the reviews, I realized that I had found our lodging for the night. This place is a real jewel in a jewel of a town in the Scottish countryside! All the buildings are picturesque, and it sits across the street from a beautiful old church and a block away is a beautiful old palace. The whole town looks like a travel postcard! Plus, the staff at the hotel were all amazingly friendly and helpful, and we enjoyed the restaurant as well. Do yourself a favor, and book this place. You won't be sorry! =)
