Hotel Cairoli, Rome
Excellent4.0 / 5
Staff was ok. Room was small and you could hear everything that happens in the next room. A small train is near, so the room trembles a bit every time it goes by. Other than that breakfast was good, location was great, and room air conditioner was very good.

Nice Location in Rome
The hotel is difficult to identify from the outside as it is located on the second floor (first floor in Italian terms) of an unmarked building that faces an old, run-down piazza. The only signs we saw (later) identifying the hotel were a buzz-in button and etchings on the windows. So, it looks a bit sketchy as you arrive and enter a long, dark hallway lined with unidentified doors toward the stairs/elevator. A little more signage would help. A woman helped us find the hotel entrance as we felt a little lost, and we returned the favor to another couple who also arrived looking confused. However, the hotel is in a great location of Rome within easy walking distance of most of the major sites. We walked to: The Vatican, Piazza Navona, The Pantheon, The Colosseum/Forum, etc. It's also a very short walk to Tiber Island where you find lots of shops, bars and a few restaurants later in the evenings. It's also on a main street with easy access to buses, and a metro line. The metro train (above ground here) could be a little loud, but the window had good insulation and kept most of that noise out. The hotel room was pretty large with a LOT of cool art. It was kind of a dark room, but that works for sleeping. It was very hot in Rome while we were there and the air conditioner in the room did just okay. Overall a pretty good experience.

Ok but not 4 stars.
THIS IS NOT A 4 STAR HOTEL simply due to the entry which is non existent. Down a very sketchy dark hallway, then up a flight of stairs to the lobby. The staff is helpful and polite and the room was clean but bare. This hotel is fine if you are looking for a perfect Rome location with bare bones but not if you expect 4 stars.

Smells and Noises
Rooms were smaller than expected, and entry to the hotel was very confusing. There's a small push button outside the building labeled "Locanda Cairoli" which you have to press to enter the building. Also the walls were very thin, we could hear into the next room very clearly, as well as could hear every word the hotel staff were saying down the hall through the door. On top of that we didn't expect to hear the very loud metro trains rolling right outside our window constantly throughout the night. The room smelled slightly odd. Staff wasn't very helpful in giving directions to bus stops, which are not very well labeled in Rome to begin with. Definitely won't be coming back!

A nice spot in Rome
We came to Rome to attend a wedding, and we chose the Hotel Cairoli. After we booked, we heard that the hotel is noisy from the tramsthat pass on the main street. The hotel rooms face the main street, the piazza adjacent to the main street and small side street opposite to the main street. Our room faced the small side street. Our room was quiet, very comfortable and well appointed. The breakfasts had a simple elegance, flavorful and nutritous. Its location was great for us in easy walking distance to significant sites and the wedding activities. We would seriously consider staying there again and recommending to our friends.
