Great room, perfect neighborhood
My boyfriend and I had a great stay at this hotel. They gave us an upgrade when we checked in. The courtyard is beautiful, in a hutong. The hutong was full of life. Many bars, restaurants, and stores. Also very near the more touristy Gulou area so there are a lot of food/drink/shipping options. Also very near the bell and drum towers. The room was very affordable for the neighborhood and the room was very clean. It was a nice size although the double beds are a bit small for 2 people to share but manageable. We'd definitely stay here again!!

great courtyard, nice rooms, terrible bathroom
Great location, close to lots of touristy things and main streets that have a lot going on (especially at night). However, it's ~10-15min walk in hutong, away from the main street. Close to subway station (~15min walk) is a plus. Great courtyard (no garden, but nice outdoor furniture), nice rooms, terrible bathrooms. Toilet doesn't flush anything solid - liquids only. Perhaps I clogged the toilet a bit by accidentally tossing in some toilet paper. Perhaps the toilet just sucks. Regardless, it'd take 5 or more flushes to get solids down. :( Also, the floor is not flat, so the water from the shower goes all over the bathroom floor before draining at the lowest point in the bathroom - at the drain between the toilet and the sink (no, not the drain right under the shower head). Thus, with each shower, you get a soapy wet bathroom floor. Rest assured, it doesn't flood. Free wifi available, friendly staff, luggage storage available. Overall, nice place if not for the bathroom. I don't know if all the bathrooms are like that, but it was enough of a shock for me. Though I would do another short cheap stay (2-3 days) and deal with the bathroom.

The way to see how the real people live in China
The ultimate in the chineese experience, old Beijing. If you go to china stay here. The real world NO American stuff. Only one maybe 2 anywhere who spoke English, but very helpful to write for you in Chinese what you wanted.. Really amazing.. Very safe area to walk late at night. Subway easy to find. Wow Wow...

great place to stay
It is within 15 minutes walking of 2 subway stops, the drum and bell towers, and a lively lakeside entertainment/shopping district. The lama temple is also nearby. There are also lots of restaurants near the hotel. The folks who work there are helpful and knowledgeable, there are lots of places to sit and hang out, and the wifi is pretty good. The bed was a little stiff but that is common in China. I would definitely stay there again.
