Great location
Check in wasn't great. It was perfunctory, not rude but not inviting either. The room had a damp cleaning smell, the bathroom needed a better clean, we were trying to be green and reuse towels but they got taken away, the beds were clean and comfortable although we could stop them moving every time we sat on them. There was a small round table which took up a lot of space. Perhaps a square corner table would be better. We were pleasantly surprised to have the duty manager contact us on our last night offering a free breakfast based on our check in experience.

Nice stay in Wellignton
Our room was at 21st floor with a nice view of Wellington Harbour. We're close to every important attractions of the city and restaurants/bars areas. We had also the opportunity to see from our room the Sky Show Fireworks to mark Guy Fawkes Night.

Great location!
Overall I really enjoyed my 8 night stay here. Hot tip: when you arrive, don't scale the Plimmer Steps, (20 of them), with your heavy bags. Instead, enter from AMI plaza, (yellow sign, about 20 meters away), and use the escalator there. Once you arrive at the top, simply make your way thru the plaza (10 meters), then pick up the Travelodge elevator. Reception is on the 7th floor. I found the reception staff to be quite helpful throughout my time there. The same can be said for staff at breakfast. The breakfast was tasty, with enough options, tho pricey at $24, about $16US. The room was quite stuffy when temps were above 23 Centigrade. The rooms lack AC, so they offered a fan, which made the room more bearable, but not comfortable. As we head into autumn this will be less of a problem, but in summer look out! My room was serviced after 4pm, which was a problem for me, since sometimes I want to return to the room to relax or take a nap in the afternoon. This may have been due to the fact that I stayed on a higher floor, but to me it shouldn't matter. ALL rooms should be serviced by 4pm, period! The location was very central, but I experienced very little street noise. However, as in many hotels, the room doors automatically slam shut, making quite a racket. Finally, I'd like to inform North American readers that the down under Travelodge is not the same one we know. It's a different company, and is more upmarket than in the States.
