Nice hotel but generally lacks privacy
The hotel is very nice, the lobby was well decorated and inviting and opened into the Red Salt Restaurant and bar, which were very good (we ate there 2x). All of our staff and service interactions, including valet, were great - super accommodating! Room and bathroom were nice, but nothing spectacular. Our biggest issue with this hotel was the lack of privacy on the balcony. We upgraded to an oceanfront which was a great view and totally worth it (if you’re not oceanfront, you’ll be facing the other side of the hotel directly into other rooms). There is only a simple (short) railing between the balconies at all of the rooms. So, if you’re the type who wants to hang out on the balcony in your robe enjoying your coffee or some wine, be prepared to say ”Hi” to your neighbors who are sitting right next to you. It seems they could do something about this, and I assume they haven’t to ensure no one’s view is blocked. But for a hotel that touts romance and getaway, we felt too close to other guests during our stay in general. Even the pool area and lawn are in pretty close quarters. On another note, during our stay in Kauai, the island was experiencing above average winds and the hallways of the hotel were creating a wind tunnel and this outrageous howling sound that echoed into the rooms at all hours - it was SO loud! We eventually found it funny but, if you’re a light sleeper, it would certainly keep you up ALL night, it was constant.

Really Solid Overall
I had a really solid overall stay at Koa Kea. The resort grounds are pretty beautiful, but be advised that there isn't actually a beach right in front of the resort. Poipu Beach is a very quick walk, but is a crowded public beach. There's also a sketchy unmarked path to a beach on the other side of the hotel, but it requires climbing rocks and definitely isn't family friendly. The pool area is small, but the jacuzzi was quite large. I could definitely see it being a struggle to find seating when the resort is at capacity. The room was relatively disappointing given the price point. The best thing about the room was that the AC worked very well, which is definitely not always the case at luxury resorts in Hawaii. I had a garden view view was a bit of a stretch. There were some plants outside, sure, but my view was of the resort directly next door, and a lot of balconies looked directly into my room. Also, the balconies at Koa Kea are extremely non-private. There's barely any divider at all. Privacy isn't really something you'll get at this resort, as most of the rooms overlook the pool area, so if you're on your balcony you won't have privacy. That's a major reason I would not choose to stay here again. The other reason I would not stay here again is that the room was loud as hell. Every time a door slammed in the hallway, it was like a mini earthquake. And doors slammed all day and all night, because I was right by the entrance to the hallway. Not peaceful

Great for couples and little surf break out front
Overall great place - definitely good for couples although there were a few families. It feels like the Marriott next door is a better family bet with the bigger pool and kid-friendly beach. Only complaint is that breakfast service was low - but everyone is so kind and the property really is small enough to feel intimate. The staff will get to know you and it was overall an amazing stay. Would stay again 100%- Also great little surf break out front. I could surf (decent rentals on site) while my wife read by the pool. PERFECT!

Five Days in Poipu Beach
My wife and I spent five nights at the hotel in the first week of December 2019. The hotel is located in the heart of the Poipu Beach area. We had an ocean view room and there was a small lanai outside our room that provided a more than adequate view of the ocean, as well as the pool and surrounding grounds. The accommodations were excellent; very quiet and comfortable at night. The pool was warm and there were always more than enough lounge chairs (at least at this time of year) so that it was never a problem to sit beside the pool or in the grass area facing the ocean. Although the property does not front on a sandy beach, there is access to a great stretch of such beach at the far end of the property and there is a boardwalk on the property that takes you to the main Poipu Beach area. The restaurant on the property has surprisingly good food although a bit expensive. All the staff with which we had interaction were pleasant and informative. The hotel does charge the hated "resort fee" and there is no self parking ($20/day for parking). It also has rentals for beach chairs, umbrellas and surfing related items.Plenty of shopping and restaurants within a few minutes drive of the hotel. All in all, we had an enjoyable stay and felt we received good value for the money.

The report was very nice, beautiful pool area with fire pits and spectacular ocean view! outdoor bar should stay open later than 8 pm, indoor bar/restaurant excellent, rooms are nice but the bathroom is small, poorly lit, and the only light is connected to an extremely loud, annoying exhaust fan. I would highly recommend the spa couples ocean side cabana massage treatment.

Everything was perfect. Amazingly comfortable room, top notch service, excellent food...and in a beautiful setting. Wouldn't change a thing except for them to have enough vacancy to enable us to extend our stay even longer!

Beautiful Intimate Stay
This resort is phenomenal from the service to the location to the facilities. Could not ask for a better stay. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate all our needs including plugging our EV into a wall socket for us overnight even thought they didn't have a wall charger. The intimate setting of this resort is a nice break from the Westins and Marriots of the world.
