Not a nice area. Sketchy. The pics depicted look a lot better than the actual place. Staff wasn't very helpful. Cable didn't work and was told the rain knocks it out, but offered no compensation. Its New Orleans, rains all the time. Guess they never gave cable...

Safe, small room in best location
If you're traveling without kids on Frenchman street, you're not really hanging out in your hotel. You most likely want a place to stay that's convenient while you hang out. So with that in mind, this place was perfect. It's clean but very small. Nice rooftop spot with live music on some nights. Best location. Right in the thick of good music and food without the frat-like environment of Bourbon St.

Budget friendly and walking distance to NOLA
I would definitely recommend The Frenchmen Hotel for those who are on a budget but still want to be downtown New Orleans. We were able to walk to Decatur, Bourbon Street, and Jackson Square. If you are not planning on being a night owl, be prepared to put up with noise because the rooftop/streets were quite noisy after we went to bed after 11 on a Sunday. We didn't mind though, it just added to the experience of crazy NOLA! The staff was very friendly and the hotel itself has just a neat, unique, and historic vibe to it. The complimentary breakfast was pretty simple, bagels, muffins, cereal, and juice.

Poor experience in NOLA
This was our first time in NOLA; we stayed 3 nights and choose the hotel based on its location, a personal recommendation, and good overall ratings on this site (didn’t read the reviews, should have). Our room, located on the ground floor, was noisy at night, due to the many live music venues around, including live music on the terrace of the hotel itself (open to the public, with people coming and going in front of our room), and equally noisy in the morning (no sleeping in). Mattress was of poor quality and uncomfortable. There was no breakfast the first morning because staff forgot to buy food! Our room did not get cleaned at all during our stay; the maid forgot to come in! Extremely poor service overall.

Pros & Cons
Hotel is safe ,beds are amazing, staff is friendly and accommodating. BUT, had to ask for breakfast to be put out, no wash clothes at all and the hot tub needs a serious cleaning
