ECCENTRIC BUT GOOD.
I have stayed at the Rutland a few times, and have got used to its eccentricities! It is a very old building, Charles 11 and all that, with a tricky to negotiate 1960's car park. That said, I enjoy my stays here, the staff are friendly, the location is ideal, right in Newmarket High Street, the food and drink satisfactory. But be warned, if you are not prepared to smile, try Premier Inn! I understand, since the hotel has been bought out, it is to be renovated, I hope it does not lose its charm.

Quaint older style hotel in horse racing territory
Well positioned for a short break and for Jockey Club. Within walking distance of Tattersals. Didn't see the Maktoums though!

Felt a bit let down.
A few points badly let down what was otherwise a nice stay. The shower was so inadequate that for the first time in years I resorted to having a bath. We only had breakfast in the hotel and although the food was quite good there was an air of disorganisation amongst the staff.
