Rutland Arms, Newmarket
We stayed one night. The hotel is wonderfully eclectic in internal layout. It is right in the center of town, and only a couple of blocks from the Gallops, but we found it quiet and comfortable. The front desk recommended a nearby restaurant, which had excellent food. There is parking available behind the hotel, but call first for directions!

The bedroom bedside lights did not work and there was a fire alarm at 4 am. Service was excellent but the hotel needs a elevator installing

Mixed review of good / bad points but would return
Good food menu , reasonably priced food /drink , helpful , friendly staff apart from the middle aged lady at check in on reception , very abrupt /rude . Not a people person and not suited to her job. Comfy bed but overall hotel very tired and in need of a overhaul although bar/food area not so bad. Great central location with free parking . Nice breakfast . Our duvet cover had nail varnish on it and there was ash in the windowsill , room very tatty , freezing bathroom as heated towel rail not working . Bed comfy , hair dryer , iron , ironIngleton board , tea tray with biscuits . Would stay again as not badly priced with free breakfast

Pleasant staff but frayed surroundings
Pleasant stay and friendly, helpful staff but décor and furnishings beginning to show their age.
