Our go-to place in Amsterdam
Max Brown Canal will be our go-to hotel when in Amsterdam. A very warm, hospitable place in a super location. Nice cozy bar area and good solid breakfast. The most helpful staff one could ask for . Only downer is very steep, narrow stairs for carrying luggage (no elevator). They serve their very own pizza and host small music groups!

Great European destination!!!
A fabulous hotel in an outstanding location. 7 mins walk from Amsterdam central (perfect) and located in the canal district in the heart of Amsterdam, this hotel was ideally located to explore the whole city. A great European hotel whose lobby area was also the hotel bar - a great spot to enjoy a beer btw Service was excellent, friendly and knowledgeable. Only minor complaint was no AC - so if this an issue for you, then make note.

Perfect weekend escape
Had a great weekend getaway. The Max Brown is lovely hotel with very friendly staff. The Bar is open late and they make a good cocktail, Breakfast offers a good selection. The rooms are a little small but comfortable with everything you need. Be aware of the steep stairs getting up to the rooms. Went on a river cruise with Captain storm, booked through reception, can't recommend enough, nice little boat and he has great knowledge, lots of interesting stories. The area has plenty of restaurants, bars and coffee shops nearby and public transport is very easy.

At home
Immediately felt at home. Cozy! Everyone was nice, and while the place is close to the city center, it is a nice quiet area at night.

Fabulous stay! Perfect location!!! Charming!
My sister and i stayed at Max Brown for 4 nights. We stayed in room 207 with a small balcony and large window. Ive attached pictures so you can see the layout and space. Beautiful medium sized room with twin beds pushed together. Plenty of room for my sis and I. Loved how i could keep the do not disturb sign on and still get a basket of fresh towels and TP every other night - Brilliant! We are low maintenance so we loved that. Breakfast was great, staff super helpful and friendly. This room is up 2.5 flights of stairs but worth it in my opinion. Bed super comfy! Tips: stop at the flower market on Single on the way to the hotel and get a small bunch of flowers. I paid 3.50. Ask the front desk for a vase and enjoy them in your room during your stay! Be aware of the bike paths if this is your first time in ams. You often feel like you are in a sidewalk but then you are almost run over ( listen for bike bells and react quickly to be respectful - sometimes its unavoidable to be in the street especially with luggage). The locals get very angry about this and they arent shy about showing it. I rode a bike and could understand the frustration. There are stairs so if you dont like to climb or have a hard time this may not be right for you (they do have ground floor rooms though!!) but we didnt find it to be a problem at all. Luggage is tricky just take your time with it. If i go back i will stay here again hands down.

Great location, not so comfortable
This hotel is in a great location and has a lovely coffee shop/bar/lobby with very kind staff. I think the hotel is better suited to young backpackers (although they probably can't afford it). Our room had a view of the canal but was very tiny and dark, not much space to move around in. The bathroom was darker than the room, barely any light in there. The window was single pane and you could hear everyone on the street like they are inside with you and it also let in the cold. There is a heater, but it's not enough to heat the room with such a cold drafty window.
