Convenient location, dedicated staff
The hotel is a historic listed property, so it comes with all the issues of an old property that cannot be fixed (low water pressure, creaky floors). But the dedicated 5 star staff balances those issues out. The location is in the city center, so it is near to many restaurants and pubs - but be prepared for some noise from outside the hotel from customers exiting the pubs (or ask for a quiet room when checking in). Enjoy the cooked to order breakfasts in the restaurant.

Old and tired
This is an old hotel that needs some updating and renovation. The bed was comfortable, but the room was warm even in March. Without air conditioning it should be uncomfortable from May through September, even in the UK. The wifi was laughable, which would have been fine except that I could not connect to my iPhone hotspot inside the hotel. I am not sure what was going on, but it was impossible. The water pressure in the shower was insufficient and the hot water temperature in the sink never got warm.

A nice hotel, with a warm and friendly atmosphere
Overall a nice hotel. Central for shopping (literally 5min walk into town and festival place) also visited NT property a few miles away -the Vyne. Hotel staff were welcoming and friendly from the reception staff and breakfast servers to the cleaning staff. Nice and clean. A cosy feel to the hotel, more character than the almost clinical feel to large hotel chains. Nice dining area and the bedrooms are nicely decorated with a comfy bed. Lift is handy too. Breakfast was delicious, buffet for both the continental and hot food options, can request extras ie fried eggs if you prefer to the scrambled on offer. Now to the downsides, it is an older hotel, a few areas need modernising but I think they are getting round to it all. Because of its age, the walls are thinner than newer modern hotels, you can hear people in corridors, doors slamming, plugs going in sockets, even the loud snores of a neighbor! If staying on a weekend, bear in mind they do host weddings and other events so we could clearly hear loud music/dj even up on the third floor with the double glazed window closed! However it was quiet by midnight, which I thought was reasonable. Though not quite the quiet weekend we were hoping for. I would still recommend this hotel as the positives outweigh the negatives.

Great staff/shocking options at breakfast
Reception staff good. Short guy in resteraunt at brekkie was brill and i told him.. think he was kiwi of Oz? Just so you get right guy. Offered us toast while waiting for 8am to come. Breakfast grim if you dont eat full english. NO VEGAN option. Cereals 1* not 3*. Up your game there. Not a jam or honey in sight.. oh my gosh! .
