A hotel in a beautiful setting, but not for all
The Prince resort is best for people who are attending a convention there or come by car. There are only three shuttle buses to/from the JR station, and the one we wanted was booked, causing us to change our plans (it is an $80 cab ride to the hotel). There are very limited food and beverage opportunities -- only expensive fixed price Japanese and western restaurants and $10 cappuccino at the lobby coffee area. A distressed shopping area is nearby, but doesn't open until 11 am. The hotel is 3 km from town, and the walk involves dangerous winding roads. In short, while the setting is beautiful, it is not for independent travelers.

Food unbelievably expensive
The 2 restaurants on-site and unbelievably expensive and you get very little food. For example, one small head of broccoli. One carrot. The service was terrible and no attention was paid to us or others. The servers were more interested in cleaning the tables and getting them ready for the next batch of people. The Japanese restaurant is over USD $125 per person. Other than a Chinese restaurant 2 miles away, there really isn't any place to eat dinner close-by. On the other hand, the front desk staff are at attention the entire time, bow continuously, escort you and carry your bags (females lift heavy bags with their heels on) to your rooms and show you where the robes, slippers, etc. are and protocol for the onsen. The lobby is impeccable and simple but stunningly beautiful. There is a lake cruise ship dock and the tramway in the building over, that is really convenient. There is a public bus from this tramway building that will take you anywhere. Roads are very narrow and windy, like the Amalfi Coast in Italy. You can see Mt. Fuji very well from the ground and from the top of the tramway. They call it a ropeway, it is really a tramway.

Family overnight get away
Great hotel with English speaking front desk staff. Awesome onsen. Free parking with lots of spaces and we left our car parked at the hotel after checkout while we went sightseeing. The hotel is right next door to a ropeway station, souvenir shops, some small cafes. Limited restaurants so we drove into town to eat. Also there is a small but nice aquarium in the shopping plaza. All of the shops accept credit cards. We live in Japan and own a car so transportation wasn't a problem for us. Not sure if the hotel has a shuttle to/from downtown and the train station. The room was very hot so we opened the windows for the cool breeze. Located right on the lake too.

Great weekend stay to relax
Beautiful view of Fuji from the patio. The French restaurant was very nice for dinner. Breakfast there was average and expensive. The road was not real walkable to town for more restaurants.

Great onsen a bit out of the way
Good hotel but infrastructure is bit dated and out of the way to other Hakone attractions. That said, the Onsen and their service were both great.
