The Timberline Lodge, Big Bear Lake
Bug infested, damp wet towel. Absolute nightmare
This is Big Bear Mountain. Bugs are expected. But not huge bed bugs and carpet bugs . Bugs, big huge bed bugs. Infested. Left bedroom to stay in the living room. The management left their after hour phone numbers and no answer when called at 7:45 in the morning. The night before, heater didn't work well so we had to call the front desk to get it checked out. Towels were damp and wet as they were pulled out from dryer because their supply ran out. Stay else where. Stay away from this place. The place was so bad that we prepay for two nights but left the first morning.

Great lodge
The bed is fantastic. The fireplace worked nicely but don't you dare run the heater and the fireplace at the same time! If you do a little gremlin inside the heater shuts it off and then you need to have the heater reset so it will work again. No really...this isn't some 'gullible-flatlanders-will believe-anything' tall tale, it's REAL, I saw the gremlin! But seriously, tall tales aside it's a great place to stay. The staff is super cool, the cabins are cute and adequate. It's a rustic mountain cabin lodge, don't set your expectations for a five star resort. And it's pet friendly.

Mouse feces in kitchen
I usually don’t write reviews unless I am super pleased by the experience/service, but the lack of cleanliness of this simple place was disappointing; - Mouse/rat feces in pots and pans - Hairs on several pillows (beds made) - Crumbs and orange juice on the cutting board - Half full beer can in the window - The wall around the stove looks like it never has been wiped - Fire alarm went off when we turned on the oven, so I assumed that hadn’t been cleaned either. Moreover, the “full kitchen” is so sparsely filled that we had to scramble to find something resembling a breakfast bowl for the five of us, in this rental advertised for 6. Worst of all though, we arrived in the evening with three kids and needed to both cook dinner and breakfast before anyone arrived in the office. He then questioned our integrity by implying that we were trying to scam them, since we had cleaned instead of calling an emergency line. After consulting with his supervisor he offered only some firewood and a late checkout, with the argument that since we had booked through a 3rd party ( he could not offer any discount. We paid $540 for three nights on a non holiday weekend. I sure wish I had paid more somewhere else.

Needs work
Check in was very easy and the staff is very friendly. We were only staying one night so we need much. However, the rooms need a lot of work like the window shades and paint. There is no AC. There are fireplaces in each room which would be nice in the winter. We appreciated the space outside where our dog could walk around.

Definitely could use a facelift. Lobby smelled like urine, cabin way outdated but need surprisingly comfy
