Hotel Aragon, Merida
Excellent4.0 / 5
Quiet but close to historic downtown.
A rather crusty welcome, and skip the advertised pool (very small). Basic breakfast of wonderbread, a toaster, orange juice, and coffee. But very close to the historic downtown, and it's in a much quieter neighbourhood than hotels and hostels closer to downtown. Beds just okay, but room was very clean.

Great location, secure parking
The hotel is only blocks away from the main plaza and many sights + restaurants. The neighborhood looks a bit worse than it really is, but is completely safe given that the police station is almost directly across the street. The proximity to the station also means that you can leave your car parked on the street where it will be perfectly safe till 6am (have to move it afterward due to traffic laws). This is especially convenient if you plan to head out early -- all the public parking lots open at 8am.
