Least favorite hotel in 2 weeks traveling Europe
For the price in Amsterdam I suppose this place is just ok but I would not stay here again under any circumstances. The walls are incredibly thin, the toilet, shower, sink are located in different 'rooms', which are essentially converted closet space. Not only that but the step up to them is unbelievably high so it is really a chore getting up and down safely, especially during the middle of the night or after a shower. I'm not 'old' by any means and it felt unsafe. There was a lot of noise nearly all night from other guests and adjacent bars and restaurants. For example I could understand every spoken word in adjacent hotel rooms. Also, the bed was essentially in the middle of the room with no headboard so the pillows fell off during the night. There was also a filthy animal skin on the bed ... why? This place is right above a cafe which offers quite good food and coffee. However, as a consequence you must enter the cafe to check-in which can be awkward with luggage. The check-in involves a good deal of waiting if you arrive during mealtime. There is also no one present to staff the hotel during the evening or early morning hours. I had mixed experiences with the staff, a few were kind and helpful and others acted like it was a bother to deal with the hotel. Last, the safe in the room is too small to fit most laptops. I own a rather compact model and it would not fit in the safe.

Lovely spot.
Really great location. A little outside the hustle and bustle of the crowded city center but very walkable. Lots of eating and shopping just steps from the door. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel restaurant was delicious. Best coffee I had on the trip. The room was exactly as pictured. The only discomfort for us was the (typically European) split mattress on the bed which made for tricky sleeping for two.

Great place
Great place! The street is bustling during the day and quiet at night. Nice breakfast and super kind and helpful staff. Loved the location. Only a 10 minute walk to central station with small roller suitcases. Very nice coffee and breakfast.

Great "Local" Experience
I was traveling/backpacking with my boyfriend (both in our 20's) and we wanted to stay somewhere that wasn't touristy or in a commercial hotel. We loved the street we were on, lots of good food and shopping near by, but if you're looking for a place in the heart of Amsterdam's tourist areas this may not be the place for you. I would 100% stay here again. The hotel is very charming and clean. The room and bathroom were in great shape, the only thing that slightly bothered us (and this is very surprising because we are loud and musicians) was the noise. The street outside stays busy fairly late so the noise might bother some people if you're exhausted from a long day of travel and just want to pass out. Great experience overall, being above a coffee shop is also always a plus. I would even recommend this place to my mom and that's saying something.

Friendly Staff, Cozy Room, Central Location
My girlfriend and I started our month long euro trip here at the Hotel Teun. We took the train from the airport, and walked to the hotel which is about 10 minutes walk from the central station. The hotel and room were very clean, and the staff were friendly. There's a restaurant downstairs which looked tasty though we didn't have a chance to eat there. Wifi was fast - better than any hotel I've seen yet in Europe. There's a bike rental shop just two blocks down the street which also came in handy (12euro per day). I'd highly recommend Hotel Teun!
