Quiet, renovated room -- with a nasty surprise!
First the good: the staff is wonderful, professional, friendly; our upgraded room on the top floor was quiet, brand-new, and very comfortable; the elevators were fast and reliable. (I had been worried after reading some of the other reviews.) Now the middling: this isn't my favorite neighborhood to stay in because it is loud and dirty. However, this is what was available at a decent price on short notice. The one really good thing about this hotel's location is that it is within a block of a subway stop. I give big points for that. Now the bad: after a nice comfy night in our brand-new room with the spotless bedding and fabulous black out shades, we turned on the lights to find a HUGE -- LIKE 3-4 INCHES LONG -- ROACH in the middle of my daughter's snowy white comforter. I smashed it with the room's iron because no mere shoe would have killed this beast. (Tip: don't use the iron in room 2408 making sure it's clean). Luckily, we were only staying one night because neither one of us could have slept in that room again. We carefully shook out all of our things and packed and checked out. The woman at the registration desks was suitable horrified and sympathetic. She gave us a $50 discount. She also said that this was the second time in a week she had heard about something like that, that they thought it was related to the ongoing renovation work, and that they would have to have the whole building exterminated. I really, really hope that they do.

Poor 2.0
I wouldn’t.
There building was dirty and smelled. There seemed to always be dirt and debris on the carpet, as if it was not fully vacuumed. I had to walk over dirty linens to use the stairs. The entire building is smoke free, yet it always smelled of either cigarettes or marijuana. At one point the smell was so bad that it caused me to have an asthma attack. For the price of the room, I was very disappointed.

Great place in the heart of Chelsea.
We loved our stay here. Great customer service and our room was super comfy and clean. Great location if you want to be in the Chelsea area or a event at MSG. 10 minute walk yo chelsea market and highline.

Good 6.0
Delays and sass among a beautiful garden street.
I took a group to NYC for a conference and we have always had great luck with Hilton Garden Inns. The neighborhood was delightful - garden and flower shops lining the street. Very easy access to the 1 train at 28th. It was safe, with plenty to do and see. The hotel was clean and well-maintained. Yes, it's very loud and you will hear every siren, every door slam, and every argument outside, but it's New York and if you want things to be quiet, go upstate. The service(s) provided by the hotel were not as comfortable as they usually are in Hilton Garden Inns. My colleague and I found several of the staff members to be downright argumentative about a variety of topics, and they responded fairly rudely to me several times, even interrupting me multiple times. I'm a former New Yorker, a very patient person, and travel extensively both domestically and internationally, so I assure you these questions requiring a response were not "dumb" questions. Customer service felt curt. Finally, the day we arrived signs went up on all elevators indicating that we should expect 30 - 45 minute waits for the elevator because of room remodeling and our room was not cleaned one day due to "unforeseen circumstances" (a letter was left in our rooms). There was no mention of this upon check in or booking. This added major delays to our arrival/departure times. Overall, I wouldn't return to this location. I'd choose the Herald Square location over this location.
