Historic stay with good food
Very nice stay (only one night). We enjoyed dinner and breakfast at the hotel (we enjoyed both meals). The lounge area was nice for a drink before dinner and for coffee afterward. There was an older clientele in general, but we were made welcome.

Great hotel
We spent a comfortable, relaxing evening at the hotel. When we explained to the manager on duty that we had to leave very early the next morning he provided us with box lunches for our journey. This was very helpful on our long ride the next day. The town was delightful and we found a charming restaurant within walking distance of the hotel.

Lovely location, friendly staff, rooms could do with a little modernisation - poor qualtiy tv reception. Food was good quality. Pet friendly in rooms and bar area.

Disappointed Highlander
This is a hotel that I would normally give high praise but on this occasion, too many things went wrong with the facilities. The shower in my room didn't work at all and I was given the opportunity to shower in a neighbouring room, I pointed out that I was staying 2 nights and that such an arrangement might not be the best. The receptionist was very helpful and did arrange a change of room for me but unfortunately, the shower was of vintage quality and had a dodgy temperature control which took some time to master. There was no temperature control knob on the radiator, which was at full heat. It was a mild evening and even with the room window fully open, the room was stifling. There was no-one at reception and the night porter took some time to track down. He said that there was nothing he could do about it and that I would just have to wait 'til the heating went off at 11pm. Eleven o'clock came and went and the radiator remained at full blast. I ended up muffling it with a bed-spread, all of the towels and my jacket. Even so,he room was still too hot for comfort. Surely guests should be able to regulate the heating in their rooms without resorting to desperate measures. And, the TVs desperately need replacing. The screens are too small and the picture quality is appalling. The few stations that can be accessed either have a heavy snow effect, or are in black and white, or have both of these drawbacks. The hotel has great potential but urgently requires investment.
