Stay for the location
Great location. 1950's decore. AC couldn't keep up with sun drenched room. Wi-Fi unusable, and no cell coverage. Resteraunt food only so so, and the only reasonable choice.

Great location and setting
Great location on BRP. Great setting with beutiful pond, view of Peak. Dated rooms, noisy ac unit, no wifi or cell coverage. Nice lodge, good breakfast.

Great location and very nice and clean rooms with great view of lake. The staff was very nice. On down side there is little to no cell service and their WiFi was so poor it was of little use. If you want to disconnect then this is the place for you. If not you will be frustrated with you inability to get text or e-mails. Restaurant was over priced and food was not good. On our second night we drove 20 minutes down to Bedford for a nice dinner. There were three or four hikes you can take on property. One is a one mile paved trail around the lake which was very nice. Another is a 1.5 mile hike to the top of Sharp Top Mountain where you get a 360 views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Close to heaven in Virginia
Peaks of Otter Lodge gets you as close to heaven as you can be in Virginia. While not luxury it is amazing in every way. The luxury version would be at least $500 a night so that's okay. Every room opens onto the lake and the mountain view--and you can see it all from bed. This is a real view, not a crane your head and you can see a little. We also loved sitting on the porch, eating in the dining room (the view again). The food isn't gourmet but it's good and breakfasts are delicious Southern food (eat those biscuits!). On Saturday nights, you must go to the bar for bluegrass. We took the old bus to the short hike to the peak (due to an injury can't really hike) and it's still a hike, not a walk. For walking, there's the mile walk around the lake at the lodge. Don't miss the huckleberry Moscow mules at the lodge and also nice galleries in the nearby town--as well as vineyards in the area if you have more time. This is place to relax!
