Beautifully Annoying
I’ve stayed at some of the best hotels around the world, and never left a review, but I feel like The Azulik Hotel is deserving of one... for it’s idiosyncrasies. The design is unmatched by any hotel I’ve ever visited - stunning. Staying at Azulik wasn’t at all what I imagined though: Granted my experience is swayed by the fact that I came to Tulum for an Art + Music festival who’s main events were at night. 1. If you’re looking to get changed at night, pack a self standing flashlight. It’s nearly impossible to look through your luggage at night or look in a mirror with the 6/7 candles that they provide for light. 2. If you’re looking at sleeping at all during daylight hours, be aware that they may place you near a Woodshop that has wood grinding, milling and chopping going on. Pack some ear plugs and an eye mask... there are also no curtains, so the workers going past the room I was in could freely look inside as they were going back and forth to the Woodshop. Room 46. 3. If you plan to stay at Azulik you should be okay with the Mayan culture of a tub and half coconut for cleaning yourself (but obviously not at night - no light, and not during the day - workers waking past the place during daylight hours to go to the woodshop without curtains or any sort of privacy). Other than that, the hotel was simply beautiful to behold and walk around in. Much like an art gallery... but also much like an art gallery, who would ever want to sleep in one?!

An Eco Ripoff.
Horrible. No privacy. You're better off in a tent on the beach. Not worth $800/night. Maybe $50. I don't know how they got good reviews. There was bats, mosquitoes, no amenities, and the water leaked in when it rained.

Fantastic couples retreat.
One of my favorite hotels ever. The view from the room was incredible, great beach, nice food and friendly staff.
