Great location, but some problems
The positives: the location is excellent. Maybe a 5-10 minute walk to all of these: the Castle, the National Gallery, the Scott Monument, Price Street Gardens, Waverly train station, several bus lines, and the tram which goes directly to/from the airport. The hotel is very cool looking and contemporary. The food is very good, ate breakfast 3 mornings, dinner 1 time. Rooms are spacious by typical European standards and our room had a working fireplace. Negatives: there are funky red/pink lights in the windowsill that stay on all night - shut the blackout curtains, but then you end up blocking the air that comes through a vent in the windowsill. There is construction going on right now right next to the hotel, not their fault, but don't expect to sleep past 9am or take a midday nap until after 3pm. Construction site left their lights on 1 night making it especially hard to block the light and keep air circulating. Finally, we didn't think breakfast was included, but the woman who checked us in said it was. We asked her to double check and she confirmed yes. So, we ate breakfast at the hotel instead of going anywhere else to grab a quick bite. As we check out, we are charged for each of those breakfasts. After stating that this was not what we were told, they cut the breakfast bill in half which would have equaled what we would have spent popping into a coffee shop to grab a drink and a croissant. However, this extra charge left us a bit of a sour note on the experience.

The hot spot place for the younger crowd.
Loved the location of the hotel. Easy to walk to many shops and restaurants. Bit of a climb to the castle. Room was a nice size and bed very comfortable and decor a little worn. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Only downside was the it was a major hotspot for young singles. Very crowded and noisy bar area. We coulld not have a drink with our friends. We are the over 50 crowd and definitely in the minority at this hotel.

Great hotel and location
The room was pretty amazing and quite large for a European hotel. Although we didn't try the bar and restaurant, that looked pretty nice too. The location was pretty convenient - it was easy to walk to the castle and the "royal mile" - perhaps a 10-15 minute walk. There was a nice pedestrian walkway through the middle of the block about a half block away that had a lot of restaurants and shops too.
