UNEXPECTED, DIFFERENT AND AMAZING VIBE
The Selina hotel is nestled in a vibrant diverse flourishing business sector about 15 minutes from Downtown DC and/or the airport. It was quick Lyft ride and we could easily get to our meetings. We got there late at night, which made it a little challenging to find. They have an app to check-in and it works...they were waiting for us. I was a little concerned because I called to let them know we were arrving late prior to traveling, and no one picked up the phone. But once we got there as saw they were expecting us, we immediately felt that warmth of the front desk staff and were digging the place. We loved the vibe, full of artistry, music, relaxed/casual business spaces, funky background music and a helpful front desk. It's located in the outskirts of the fancy/stuffy more formal business area, and so will appeal to business travelers who are looking for less sterile work travel accommodations. It was nice to do work in the co-working space in the lobby, and grab a nice breakfast of hot coffee, hard bolied eggs, toast and fruit. The room was very comfortable and clean. We love the "artist loft"/industrial look and feel of the room and entire building overall. A few blocks away, there are plenty of fabulous restaurants and shops, great for meeting with people in a more hip environment. Loved all the diversity. Had lunch at Las Gemelas restaurant - had the tacos al pastor and they were delicious. I wll definitely stay at Selina next time I'm in Washington DC.

Disgusting hotel and room
I left the hotel after checking in because they put me in a basement room that smelled like cigarettes. I closed the window and then it smelled like mold. Over $300 and also didn’t feel safe in the basement. Concrete floors and moldy. Super gross. I told the guy working there that it was the grossest hotel I had ever been in and he said “you should have seen the hotel I stayed at in Alabama.” This is the same guy that said “Oh, you are in the basement. We don’t usually rent out the basement. We are full.” No TV either and a matchbox sized shower. I will never ever ever stay at this hotel again. Disgusting.

well styled but lacking functional design
Beautifully styled/designed rooms but not very functional for anyone who wants to do anything other than sleep in the room. the minimalist furniture made it hard to work in the room. Also, the restroom for my room had a large window with no curtain and since it's next to another building, people could see into the room...I assumed there was tint from the outside but when I walked around the building during a jog I noticed that definitely wasn't the case and my request for drapes/curtains to be added was dismissed saying the room doesn't need it. I wanted to love this place as the location is great but I was disappointed :(.

Noisy!!!
Noisy! The bottom floor is co-working area, the 5th floor, the top floor is a bar that blasted music till 2am. Till 1am, we still hear people yelling from the bottom of their lung. If you need to have solid sleep for your activity next day, avoid this place.

Decent Stay
It was a clean place from what we saw. The standard mini room was just right. Wish we had an option to change the temperature on the thermostat or at least a mini fridge. It was very noisy at night. People were in the lobby on our floor being extremely loud. We heard someone come out of their room to tell the noisy people to quiet down but they still didn’t. It was also noisy outside.

Selina Union Market DC Spent three nights here. The first problem was the so-called "experience fee" of $23 extra per night that they tried to charge us at check-in . Expedia had clearly stated how much our 3 night stay would cost (total due at check-in), and the "experience fee" was extra. In the end we paid for one night's "experience fee", and had 3 days of breakfast included (a sort of continental-type with cold slices of meat, bread, cheese - not bad). The room looked OK, but no tissues, hair dryer, iron, coffee maker, microwave, or fridge, not even a telephone to call the front desk - and we were paying more than $200 per night. Oh, and there was nowhere to put your clothes, no cupboard or chest-of-drawers - only a single structure consisting of a metal frame with 2 wooden shelves about 4 feet long. But the real problem was yet to come. The floor (wood laminate, or whatever) was FILTHY. It didn't look it, but in the morning after walking barefoot across the floor and stepping in the shower, the water ran black (and I mean BLACK not just dirty). I couldn't believe it so I rubbed a dry (not wet) paper towel on the floor of the bedroom, and it came up BLACK with thick dirt, anywhere in the room. So the bottom line for us was: it could have been a nice unusual hotel, with a nice foyer and pleasant rooms. But it wasn't!
