We were visiting Fallingwater and this was one of the "nearby" hotels (16 miles away). Perched at the summit of a steep hill, it has a great view of the valley below. Nice pool and the hotel is one of the last of the great old "porch hotels". Decent bar and restaurant in the hotel and it's quiet.

Yesterday and Today
Our family generally thinks of a hotel as a place to sleep. We're on the road, or we're looking forward to the sights of a city, or the fun of an event somewhere. A good bed and a good shower are primary considerations, and if the hotel can provide these then it's a good hotel. The Summit Inn harkens back to a time when the hotel was the destination. Built in 1907 it exudes an air of days gone by. While the rooms are modern with the good bed and good shower, the lobby is more than just a place to check in. Dowdy, comfortable stickley chairs frame a huge stone fireplace on one side and a big screen tv on the other. The main dining area is on the veranda features a hundred mile view over the Laurel Highlands of southern Pennsylvania and the traditional soup, salad, entree, and dessert, just like the old days. A second dining area inside offers sandwiches, sharables, and today's lighter fare. Two swimming pools, a small 9 hole golf course, game room, available massage and yoga sessions mean you may come to stay and then just stay. Oh, by the way, there's even a treehouse!
