Look elsewhere
Convenient to Harvard, however the tiny closet of a room was unfortunate. The house is very old and one can hear the snoring from the next room. As far as the breakfast part of their B& B, It’s atrocious

not for couples
This was a friendly and helpful hotel and the staff were great. This is not a couples hotel.. Our room would have been fine if there had been one of us. We could barely get around the bed and with our luggage as well (we didn't even bring most of it from the car) it was an impossible squeeze. We are not an overly large couple but of us are quite tall. It felt like my daughters student room - actually she had more space. Very expensive for the size. Nice breakfast though. Would only recommend to a single visitor.I understand that all the rooms are small - this should be made clear on the website then you may get better overall reviews

Good place within walking distance of Harvard
This is basically a "rooming house" style, whose main attraction is its extreme closeness to Harvard. It has a front desk, so you can check in easily. Shared bathrooms, but the arrangement is pretty decent. Each floor has perhaps 8-10 rooms, and there are two full baths and 1 WC per floor. Breakfast was great, with several options and reasonable quality. The staff were attentive and helpful. It's an older building, but the inside is clean.

Worn out and over-priced
Irving house is not really a B&B. It's just a tired old cambridge apartment building that rents rooms and has a tasty breakfast in the basement. It doesn't offer any of the charm, interest, or personal attention you'd expect from a B&B. It has the feel of a super over-priced hostel. Sure, the location is great being only steps from Harvard Square, but it's not particularly nice or updated. If you know anyone who lives in cambridge, save your money and stay with them. The accommodations will be about the same and you'll get to spend since time with a friend.
