Nice, but details, details, details...
A very beautiful building which was furnished with wonderful antiques. However a few small details detracted from the experience. The toilet paper stand was obviously broken and needed repair or replacement. There were dark spots on the shower curtain; perhaps previous mold stains? Toiletries were not replaced from previous guests. There were giant size pump bottles of soap, shampoo and conditioner, easily subject to contamination from previous guests. The large horizontal Kleenex boxes were cut off on the end and stuffed into a vertical box cubby which left the bottom half of the box uncovered an made it impossible to get tissues without removing the cubby. Looked like the first several tissues were jammed back into the box because they came out in a clump. The staff was quite friendly, the appointments were quite nice. The continental breakfast was more substantial than expected from previous reviews, and the prosciutto was a pleasant surprise. Great off street parking and the grounds were lovely. Excellent location.

Historic home in the heart of San Diego
We loved staying in this historic house, in the heart of the Banker's Hill area of San Diego. The Governer's room was beautifully decorated, as were the common areas. We found the staff to be very helpful and friendly. The free parking was a big bonus (in a covered carpark just across the road) and the continental breakfast, though limited, filled us up every morning. The area is very quiet though, with only a small number of restaurants and bars within walking distance. It wasn't an issue for us though, as we were attracted to the Britt Scripps house because of its proximity to Balboa Park. The world-famous San Diego Zoo was a 20 min walk from our front door - bliss! The only downside to our stay was the major construction activity going on right beside it. Work started at 7am each morning - not an issue if you're an early riser, but not ideal if you'd wanted a lie in! Other than that, I'd have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone visiting San Diego, and looking for something rather special.

Pretty in pics but not worth the price
Prettier in the pictures. It was nice but definitely not worth the 200 a night price. A chain hotel would've been less expensive and had more conveniences. The layout was like staying at grandma's and yes I get that it's a renovated Victorian. Rooms just too close together for a real feeling of privacy. No AC in building only rooms. Breakfast wasn't out until an hour after it was supposed to be and it just didn't seem up to health code...guy serving looked like he just rolled out of bed in terms of dress and bed head hair. Not impressed. Just gave the impression of a couple of guys renting rooms out of a renovated building and throwing together some food for guests. No thank you British Scripps.

Very charming and convenient from airport to cruise terminal. There was a discrepancy about our room, though. My reservation said "Aesthetic room" which looked beautiful on website; but we were put in lesser "Carriage house" instead.
