Not a good night for comfort nor sleep
I have stayed at this hotel multiple times with no issue. This night, there must have been a graduation party going on as well as large groups staying that night. The back lobby lounge was packed with loud and noisy young guests. The room across the hall had loud music blasting for hours. When i went to place my things near tge bed i was assigned there were someone else’s luggage there already. Room wa a hot mess - no A/C no tv luggage and dirty clothes everywhere. One guest couldn’t sleep and walked around the room all night long was eating chips or crackers didn’t know how to keep the bathroom door closed while using it and he was doing laundry all night long. Not the best night for sleep

I stayed in the Molly Picon room!
I found both check-in and check-out extremely easy and fast. This hostel is located on Orchard Street in Chinatown. The room to which I was "assigned" was the Molly Picon room (she was an actress in the Yiddish and American theatres, whom I had seen perform in the Broadway musical "Milk and Honey" during the early 1960s. I found everything about this hostel completely charming: clean, well-maintained rooms; a bathtub with a Jacuzzi; the poster art in the rooms and in the halls of the actors for whom the rooms were named. The room also contained a mezuzah. My room consisted of two bunk beds in one room and one bunk bed in the other room--a total of six beds. The rooms contained both male and female guests. I had no problem with this and no problem with six people sharing a single bathroom. Guests staying multiple nights and desiring storage of their luggage were able to store the items in a secure location in the basement. Each item was tagged and retrieving the items at night required showing the tag receipt to a hotel employee, who would then open the locked door to the storage room for baggage retrieval. There are numerous good restaurants within easy walking distance of the hostel. The hostel is "manned" (or "womaned") 24 hours a day by very pleasant young people, mostly from Eastern Europe. I would enthusiastically recommend this hostel and plan on returning when I next visit New York City.

Not that great, but well located.
This is a hostel. The place is relatively clean, but very old, so it's not that clean. The front desk person was not that friendly, and the housekeeping person was very annoyed when I told him I found bugs on the bed when I came back to my room and looked at me like I was an idiot! I recommend bringing earplugs because it most likely will not be quiet. You only get one pillow and one towel, they don't give out extras. However, they do make your bed and replace the towel each day. The hostel is well located, that is probably the best thing about it. Also, the lobby is nice, but I didn't spend any time there. Wish I could give a better review.

Glad we choose this hotel for our 3 night visit
I read a lot of reviews on the hotel before my visit so I felt prepared and my expectations were met. My son and I stayed in a private room with 2 queen beds. The room/bathroom were clean and the beds were comfortable. Very different from large chain hotels, but I found the decor and atmosphere charming. No issues with customer service at check-in or check-out, both young ladies were helpful and pleasant. I loved the location- lots to do/see/eat within walking distance and easy access to the metro. I’d stay here again.

They could have been a Contender!
Dorm was warm & cozy. Shower is hot with brand-name shampoo & soap. Housekeeping was responsive & helpful. Front desk staff needs to get out of the service industry since they don't understand the concept of service or customer relations.
