Bad experience with this hotel
The staff was good, but the condition of the room was so bad, the first one was smelling cesspool and I asked to change it, so they gave me another one, and the bathroom was smelling bad as well. The breakfast was very poor against what they charge for it. I never will come back in this hotel again

Nice place, great location
Hotel is in a great, centralized location in the city. Everything was very clean and quiet at night.

Close to Metro, Placa de Rossio, Barrio Alto
Room was clean enough, but hand-held shower-head bracket was broken, and not fixed during our 3-day (2-night) stay; decor was "Spartan"; window looked out upon...the roof; had to ask desk for the TV remote, which didn't work the first evening (this during World Cup!), but since every nearby bar/restaurant (there are MANY) had it on, no worries-easier to watch there than on the 16" TV in the room. Desk clerks seemed grumpy, but perhaps that's just the big-city Portugese way....

Beware
Okay, the hotel itself is like thousands of other modest, economical little European hotels. Very simple, very small. So it's all right as long as you understand that. The problem is the beggars and homeless clustered in the alley right outside the front door. Part of the reason for that is there is a supermarket directly next door and the unwashed gather there begging for handouts. The Americano is convenient to walk to Augusto boulevard and Commercia etc. but you need to know Rossio station nearby and Rossio Square also has a lot of homeless and beggars. It gives a really bad first impression of Lisbon. It is difficult to find, really hard from Rossio Metro Station unless you have a GPS on your phone. Honestly, I'd pick a different neighborhood.
