Fine but kind of miserable
Good location. You can use the facilities (ie pool and hot tub) at the Banff Park Lodge, which is just around the corner and catch the shuttles to the mountain from there. The Bow View Lodge isn’t as nice as the BPL: kind of run down / miserable, smaller rooms, older and smaller bathrooms, no concierge and, on my visit, pretty disaffected staff at the front desk. My room smelt like cigarette smoke and the carpet was damp—presumably they’d shampooed it to try to get rid of the smell. I was staying one night (getting in late, leaving early) and couldn’t be bothered to make a fuss. I would pay the extra money for the BPL if it were available. If not, though, and you’re going to be skiing or out most of the day, it would be fine though.

Decent hotel in a great location!
This hotel is in a good location, close to the heart of Banff. The room was big enough for the three of us, although the beds were only doubles, not queen. Also, the room could stand to be refurbished, everything seems to be dated. To their credit, the room was clean and functional. All in all a good experience.

Expensive for what you get
We stayed for two nights in this hotel on the third (top) floor, and it was fairly quiet. We looked out on woods, not on the Bow River as we had requested. The room was large with couch, table and two chairs, many drawers for storage, and a good hanging area for clothes. The hotel is very close to downtown and all its restaurants and bars (1-2 blocks). However, the hotel had many cons which caused a lower rating. The room had an ancient tube tv (not HD) with no cable stations, minimal amenities, very hard water, and no microwave, a small refrigerator with no freezer (and with no way to adjust coldness), coffee only in the room, not the lobby (and they provided only one no-name coffee package at that), and no breakfast of any kind. The bathroom and outside sink area were very small, and lighting in the room was so poor that we asked for another lamp. Also, sleeping was tough with very hard beds, and because of frequent trains through the night with six loud blasts on its way through Banff (probably true for many hotels in Banff!!). Finally, this was our first hotel in two weeks that charged for wifi in the room - $5 per night All in all, for a total price of over $200 per night, I would suggest people look elsewhere for their stay in Banff.
