Las Ramblas hotel with rooftop pool, 3 minutes from metro

On tree-lined Las Ramblas

Hotel 1898 puts you directly on Las Ramblas, a wide pedestrian-friendly avenue dotted with flower vendors, newspaper stands, and street performers. For quick trips to the Eixample district or Passeig de Gràcia, it’s a 3-minute walk to Liceu Metro Station.

Cathedral, Gothic Quarter

Centuries-old buildings line the narrow streets of the Gothic Quarter, and within a 12-minute walk you can tour Barcelona Cathedral or see more than 4,000 works at the Picasso Museum. Modern art is on display at Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art, 4 blocks from the hotel.

Rooftop outdoor pool

Once the palace of a marquess, this 19th-century building exudes tranquility in its library and full-service spa with pool. Heated in winter, a rooftop outdoor pool has city views, while the restaurant captures Barcelona's night scene.

Beware of Las Ramblas
The hotel itself is pretty nice but my poor rating is due to the location. The hotel is located in the middle of Las Ramblas, which might seem like a positive but it's actually a big negative. In my opinion, Barcelona has been overrun / ruined by tourism and crime. My first visit to Barcelona was around 8 years ago and it was much nicer and safer back then. While walking back to the hotel on Las Ramblas, I was approached by a group of pickpockets / thieves and hit on the head with brass knuckles. The police seemed to be in the area but didn't do anything. Luckily, two local guys helped me out to fight off the group, otherwise it would have been worse. This was about a 5-minute walk from the hotel and center of Las Ramblas. If you absolutely MUST come to Barcelona, stay far away from Las Ramblas. Also, if you really want to see Las Ramblas, take a taxi early morning at sunrise and go for a jog or walk before most of the tourists wake up and after the criminals go to sleep. Unfortunately, this hotel is right in the middle of this street so I can't recommend it.
