6/10 Good

Okay, but nothing special
While the beach was pretty, the pool was wonderful, and the room was large with a great firm bed, we would not stay here again.
It took 3 days to get a few burned-out light bulbs replaced. There never seemed to be anyone 'in charge' anywhere at the hotel, and no one seemed to speak more than a few words of English.
The restaurants (mostly the two buffets, where we ate most often) have fantastic desserts and salads and lots to choose from, but the entree items were not that enticing and were often just warm, not hot. We ate at one of the special places (Tres Carabelas) for dinner and ordered grouper in pepper sauce, but the sauce had little flavor and no heat. The fish looked a lot more like snapper.
I popped a veneer off the first day and needed to get to a dentist urgently - I went to the medical center at the hotel and was told to come back in an hour, and when I did was told 'there are no dentists available, sorry.' I went out of the office and immediately got in touch with a local dentist (I highly recommend Punta Cana Dental Health, they were amazing!).
Lots of smokers everywhere - we even encountered two in the pool on our last full day.
There's no information in the room about how to call housekeeping, maintenance, the front desk, etc., everything like this is harder and more confusing than it should be.
The room was big. The junior suite has a jacuzzi but zero privacy for the bathroom, and a tiny toilet room. The pics show the room (and torn curtains).
