About Grand Hotel Gianicolo, Rome

Comfort on Gianicolo Hill with pool, free WiFi and breakfast

Scenic Gianicolo Hill
Grand Hotel Gianicolo is a 19th-century villa overlooking Rome from Gianicolo Hill. Its quiet setting is picturesque, with gardens and winding cobblestone streets. Rome's city center is a 30-minute walk or 15-minute bus ride away.

Top Trastevere dining
Grand Hotel Gianicolo is located above Trastevere, a peaceful neighborhood known for its top-notch restaurants serving authentic Roman cuisine. The well-maintained Orto Botanico garden is a 12-minute walk, and the Vatican's St. Peter's Square and Basilica are 20 minutes on foot.

Pool and free breakfast
The hotel's classical Italian gardens include a pool that is open in summer months. You can enjoy a snack at the poolside bar or a full Italian meal at the hotel's restaurant, which has garden views. Breakfast and WiFi are free.

Luxury bedding
Grand Hotel Gianicolo's guestrooms, just like its restaurant, offer garden views. Rooms also have minibars and safes. Beds are draped in Egyptian cotton sheets and down comforters, and all rooms include free WiFi and satellite TV.

Quiet spot above Rome
The Grand Hotel Gianicolo sits above the center of Rome in a residential neighborhood and is a welcome respite far away from the hordes of tourists. The staff is pleasant and helpful. There are a variety of sizes of rooms. My first, with faulty AC and poor Wi-Fi was large but the second, with great AC and stable Wi-Fi was much smaller yet blissfully cool on a hot day. The room was spotless and well maintained. One of the best features of the hotel is its beautiful pool and garden, great if you need a dup to cool off after sightseeing. They serve a delicious lunch and cooling drinks poolside. The bathroom is well appointed although I found the shower enclosure a little tight and the water fluctuated between scalding hot and freezing without anyway to regulate. The area has a number of great restaurants close by and a few places for a late night drink. Bus service to the center is easy, but less frequent at night so taxis are the better option rather than climbing one of Rome’s seven hills. A good choice for those travelling with children who will want a pool or anyone who wants to stay in a real neighborhood.

The hotel is wonderful in every respect. The one criticism I have is that my room, which was on the fourth floor facing the pool, was very noisy when there were parties with loud sound systems lasting until midnight.

Top of the hill(?)
Nice pool. AC did not work well. Wifi not great, bathroom poorly designed--tub leaked all over bathroom, which almost caused me to slip. Poor amenities in room. No note pad or pens; only super cheap plastic glasses
