Olde Town Inn, New Orleans
First Impression Changed Quickly
We were happy with the area. Its mostly residential, but there are numerous restaurants and corner bars nearby and drinks are cheaper than the quarter. Initially we were quite pleased. The staff was very friendly, parking was easy, bed comfy, room spacious. Its a quaint little hotel, old style New Orleans so nothing fancy which we didn't expect anyway since it was the only reasonably priced hotel in NOLA. There were 2 problems; 1) We noticed right away the floor was sloped towards the back of the room and towards the right. We stayed only one night but it got worse before we left. There was a very distinct breaking point in the floor between the bed and dresser, a trip hazard (not present upon arrival), 2) my husband took a shower the morning we were leaving. During his shower, he looked up and noticed mold growing on the bathroom ceiling. I really needed a shower, but opted to wait until we got home. I couldn't get out of that room quick enough. I'm sad about the mold because we thought we had found a hidden gem. Instead, it quickly turned into one of those "you get what you pay for" experiences and I'm thinking they knew there was mold and tried to get rid of it because the room had a strong bleach odor. We really enjoyed the neighborhood and the quiet/private courtyard. Breakfast is basically fruit & breads, didn't try it. They are very generous with the toiletries, not so generous with towels (2 for 2 people and I have long hair).

the cleaning staff applied furniture polish on the wood floors BUT never aired out the room... slept with the door open.... due to the odor.

Hidden New Orleans Gem
This place was a surprisingly pleasant find. It is a 2-star place that feels like a solid 3-star. Staff are very nice and helpful. The place is not luxurious but is quaint and has lots of character. It is only a short walk to the French Quarter but the neighborhood is quiet. Robert's Fresh Food Market across the street is open 7 am - 9 pm every day and it has amazing prepared food. I am definitely coming back to this hidden New Orleans gem.

Excellent location poor accommodation
Location is brilliant, close to Frenchman Street and local bars and cafes also excellent. We booked a double room with option for two more on pull down couch. We were put in what was described as the family suite, able to sleep 8, three rooms plus bathroom and kitchen. Sounds great but in truth the place was dirty and poorly equipped. Sheets were clean but did not feel it, noise travelled badly from other rooms, breakfast was included but when things ran out nothing was replenished, first come first served. Would we stay again, yes but only due to location and if you compare cost with other hotels then it is cheaper but not necessarily good value.
