Royal Exeter Hotel, Bournemouth
Central location, Victorian charme
The Royal Exeter is the oldest hotel in town, and is still family-owned. Apart from great food and a location right between the town's center and the beach (both 5 min. walking distance), it offers a certain Downton Abbey / Victorian charm, but the rooms are modern with all the amenities. The staff was very helpful and nice, and they do have a good sense of humour - I felt very welcome.

Nice hotel. Added the 3 course dinner.

Front desk friendly at check-in. Linens and bathroom were clean but it seems the place has not been maintained over time. There is almost certainly mold in the walls- the mustiness overwhelms and could be a real problem for someone with allergies. It rained the night I was there and the fan in the bathroom ceiling poured water all over the floor. I informed the front desk and they appeared totally unsurprised, simply commenting that "it rained last night".
