Reliving Days Gone By!
This is a historic hotel, so be prepared to not have many conveniences. The room was ok, though the side we were on (think the west side) had roof views from the 2nd floor. We did get pretty sunsets from the top of the window. The bathroom is very small and no room to put anything, also no hair dryer. No coffee maker or mini fridge. They had a push button phone! Housekeeping was a bit lacking. The outside of hotel is very charming and lobby/common areas beautiful in true Southwestern style. It also has a charming old Hollywood theme with photos of Stars from days gone by and each room is named for a movie star. Interesting hallways in brick with dancing katchina art. The restaurant was excellent and gift shop featuring fabulous Native American Jewelry. It’s located on old Route 66, a little far to walk to the historic heart of DT Gallup, but a super fast drive.

Nice Historical Experience
This was a nice historical experience staying in a hotel from an earlier era where many movie stars stayed in the 1930s and 1940s, The ambience of the lobby and just sitting on the second floor was nice. The rooms were okay and nothing special, clean linen and towels, hot water, free wifi, comfortable bed and a clean room. An overnight experience was enough for me. I ate at the restaurant on premises and it was just okay.

Historic value of el rancho
We choose el rancho for its historical character and were pleased with our experience. Don’t expect luxury and conveniences such as outlets or hairdryers. We stayed in the Alan Ladd room and were comfortable with windows overlooking garden. Security guard was helpful and we enjoyed dinner. The lobby is fantastic and mezzanine delightful. For those whom like old western movie history this is a place for you.

Very interesting place
Wonderful experience. Bathroom a little bit dated and small. No place to plug in a blow dryer or curling iron but great towels and a nice shower. Room was very clean and quiet. Personnel were all very friendly. Enjoyable!
