Wonderful Hotel but Waitstaff needs training
We were able to arrange a bure on the lagoon. Very nice because it is situated right over the coral reef. Notice that there is no direct entry from your overwater bungalow to the ocean at this location, which is certainly an inconvenience. Some things needed to be repaired about our bungalow upon arrival — air conditioning controls did not respond, battery was dead in the remote, shower light was burned out, toilet door did not close all the way. Everything was fixed within the first 2 hours of our 6 days stay, making the room perfect after that. The bar in the main Plantation Restaurant should not charge the same (high price) for drinks as the pool bar at the beach, because the atmosphere is not five stars at the main building, and there is not live evening entertainment as at the pool bar. The maids are very well trained and helpful; the waitstaff at the restaurants and associated bars is very uneven. It is possible to sit 10-15 minutes before someone brings you a menu, another 15 minutes until someone can be attracted to take your order, another 20-30 minutes to get your food. The waiters visit with each other and when they walk around, are not trained to have 'radar' to see whoever needs something.

The Worst location and service!
The folks at reception are GREAT and the room is clean. We had dinner at their casual restaurant at 7:30 when maybe only 20 people were there. It took 20 minutes to get a menu, an additional 20 minutes to get the waiter to take the order (which they messed up) and over 45 minutes to deliver dinner. I was so tired of waiting that I pout my head down on the table and fell asleep. After dinner, I tried to pay with local currency, and they claimed they had no change. The meal was roughly $50.60, and I have them $100, and, at a Hotel of the L.Meridien chain, they did not have $49.40 in change--presumedly no change at the front desk, the second restaurant--NO WHERE. Waive the 60 cents?? NOT A CHANCE. The service was horrible, the food incorrect, and if they paid me for my time, I would have been able to charge them for dinner!!

Pass on this one
Overall, the island of Tahiti is blah. The clear water is the only real pretty part. Beaches on the island were terrible. IMHO, go to Hawaii instead. As for the hotel, our first room's A/C didn't work. The next day, we switched rooms and that A/C never cooled the room to the set point. It was tolerable to sleep in, but you could not sleep under the covers. The grounds of the hotel are rather nice. They have a pool that has a sandy bottom and water that was cooler than the ocean. This was especially refreshing for cooling off. Their private beach is quite sad looking and small, but is surprisingly nice for Tahiti (since most of the other beaches are bad). Everything is the hotel was ridiculously overpriced. $37 USD for a normal breakfast spread (buffet style)...c'mon. Five minutes from the hotel (walking), there is a supermarket and a couple small restaurants. Buying beer from the supermarket will save you about $7 USD per beer. The rooms were standard/average. I expect more for $300-$500 USD per night. I think $150 USD is what value you receive. If you are looking at staying in the over water bungalows, just be aware that there is no private landing to enter the water.

Sufficient pre and post cruise, but not for a vaca
The a la carte restaurant "Le Carré" oceanfront is very good. The buffet breakfasts and dinners in the restaurant 1st floor in the main building are very poor. Very limited choice, poor presentation, poor quality and far too expensive. i.e. USD 38 for breakfast and USD 62 for dinner.
