A little out of the way, but still nice restaurants and small stores within walking distance from hotel. Staff was great.

Great location! Dated rooms but best price around.
The grounds are beautiful and the overwater or beach bungalows are GREAT for the price. The rooms are dated and the garden view rooms are well worn but considering the high price of everything in FP it's a deal if you're on a budget. The restaurant on their beach was good and a nice setting and there are a few other local options within walking distance, south of the MaiTai, including a convenience store, a great pizza place and The Intercontinental Hotel which has 2 for 1 happy hour (with great infused rums) from 5:30-6:30 and then this hotel has a happy hour after that. It runs 6:30-7:30 and 8:30-10, I believe, but I don't know the discount. A nice big public beach is around the corner as well. The Sofitel is up the road the other direction a short ways but we never made it there. The reception can set you up with tours (although cheaper to do it direct), bike/scooter rentals and free snorkel equipment, however, there was always a wait at the dest and they never answer the phone if you call. Wifi is expensive hourly (the only option originally told to us) so go ahead and buy 12 hrs or a full day. If I'm ever back in Bora Bora I would definitely stay here again for the great location and value. I think it's much better to be on the main island than stuck on a motu like many of the resorts.

Hotel good, Bora Bora bad
Bora Bora is extremely overrated compared to the other islands in FP. Reefs are dead or damaged and conditions in surrounding neighborhoods are third world. That being said, the Mai Tai hotel was nice. We upgraded to an ocean view room and the views of the lagoon were good. Rooms are clean but beware of all the wasps. You can't leave the sliding doors open long or they fly in. Hotel should set up traps because they are a big problem. The only other thing that annoyed us at the hotel was the poor restaurant. Skip the hotel restaurant and eat at Bora Bora Yacht Club instead. Great food and sunsets- and they will pick you up for free. We won't be returning to Bora Bora but if for some reason we did, we would stay at Mai Tai again. Mych better than the Sofitel we stayed at in Bora Bora when we first arrived.

Gorgeous View
We thoroughly enjoyed our 3-day stay at Hotel Maitai in Bora Bora. The view from our room was absolutely beautiful as was the hotel lobby. Although the location was a little remote, bus service or taxis were readily available.
