About The Mad Hatter Hotel, London

Traditional pub-style hotel in Southwark, near the Thames

A pub in Southwark
Originally a gentleman's hat factory, The Mad Hatter Hotel places you in Southwark, just a couple of blocks south of the Thames. It's a traditional pub offering premium beers, hearty nosh, and 30 comfy and affordable guestrooms. The Southwark Tube Station is a 5-minute walk.

Culture and a cathedral
With Tate Modern a 7-minute stroll east and Southbank Centre a 10-minute stroll west, this is a great perch for culture vultures. You can stick to this side of the river and ride the London Eye, or cross Blackfriars Bridge to visit St. Paul's Cathedral, a 15-minute walk.

Square meals
Guests enjoy the traditional pub grub – pie and mash, ploughman's lunch, fish and chips – that is best washed down with a pint of amber ale. Room service (limited hours) is available. They also praise the staff, who keep the front desk open around the clock. Free WiFi is available throughout this old-fashioned building.

Cozy quarters
Cozy guestrooms have a classic English look, with bed canopies and soft carpets. Flat-screen TVs are loaded with Sky channels, and ensuite bathrooms have deep tubs with showers.

Happy with the Mad Hatter
Our stay at the Mad Hatter was very pleasant. Although our room wasn't ready at check in time we were able to grab a snack and a pint in the pub attached to the lobby. Our room was spacious with a stocked fridge (free items). In room safe, good location for walking and the subway, decent restaurants nearby, and walking distance to Borough Market. FYI, there's a lot of construction just starting all around the hotel so construction noise may be a problem.

A happy stay
We wanted a hotel with a distinctly British feel for our first visit to Britain. We also wanted it to be of good quality, centrally located. It met all those requirements in addition to a pleasantly quirky feel, friendly staff and a good restaurant that was packed every night with locals. We ejoyed our say and recommend it to anyone. We would definitel say there again.

We had a good stay in the Mad Hatter hotel. It is very close to the Blackfriars station and the river, great location. The hotel itself is a bit old and there is some construction nearby. But the staffs tried their best to make sure we had everything needed. Everything in the mini fridge was complimentary, water, juice, beer, and chocolate. We also got a coupon for the afternoon tea in the hotel restaurant. It was a great experience and certainly the best deal we could find in London.

Nice place, great staff, could use some updating.
Location was central, a block from the riverside. There’s a pub attached to the building & another a block away open later (The Thirsty Bear). This hotel doesn’t have aircon but many hotels don’t in this area, so it’s rather common. Good stay, staff was great.
