About The Mad Hatter Hotel, London

Traditional pub-style hotel in Southwark, near the Thames

A pub in Southwark
Originally a gentleman's hat factory, The Mad Hatter Hotel places you in Southwark, just a couple of blocks south of the Thames. It's a traditional pub offering premium beers, hearty nosh, and 30 comfy and affordable guestrooms. The Southwark Tube Station is a 5-minute walk.

Culture and a cathedral
With Tate Modern a 7-minute stroll east and Southbank Centre a 10-minute stroll west, this is a great perch for culture vultures. You can stick to this side of the river and ride the London Eye, or cross Blackfriars Bridge to visit St. Paul's Cathedral, a 15-minute walk.

Square meals
Guests enjoy the traditional pub grub – pie and mash, ploughman's lunch, fish and chips – that is best washed down with a pint of amber ale. Room service (limited hours) is available. They also praise the staff, who keep the front desk open around the clock. Free WiFi is available throughout this old-fashioned building.

Cozy quarters
Cozy guestrooms have a classic English look, with bed canopies and soft carpets. Flat-screen TVs are loaded with Sky channels, and ensuite bathrooms have deep tubs with showers.

10/10: will DEFINITELY be back to the Mad Hatter!
We loved the Mad Hatter! On site food was delicious! We had dinner and every breakfast there. The staff was very friendly and super helpful and accommodating (shout out to Nikki)! Our room was clean and comfortable and the location was super ideal for anyone who wants to explore all of what the London area has to offer! We will definitely be back!

Absolutely loved this place! Location was perfect, close to bus stops and underground stations, making it very easy to get around. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful with everything. The pub was a great place to relax and unwind after a day of exploring.

Not recommended.
This was the loudest stay out ever. The hotel is on a loud street with ambulances/ police blaring horns all day & night. The hotel is over a pub, with loud noise until 11:00 pm (which is not that late), but when it lets out, you'll be woken up by loud chatter. There is also a bright light lighting up the sidewalk which (in)conveniently lights up the first and second-floor hotel rooms ALL. NIGHT. LONG. They do have black out curtains, but that means you get no natural light coming in your room, and we couldn't tell whether it was 4:00am or 9:00am with curtains drawn. To apologize for construction they gave us a free drink each at the pub. A glass of cheap wine, beer, or pepsi poured from a bar hose is a skimpy gift. It's more of a way to get you into the pub to spend $. There is no common area in the hotel. The photos make it look much nicer than it is. The 2 lounge chairs in the "lobby" are in a tiny space used for storing luggage. In our 5 days, we never saw anyone sitting there. No one could even if they wanted to, but I don't think anyone would have wanted to. The hotel staff is not bad but not helpful either. We wanted to go to a late dinner (10:30), and they couldn't suggest anything. In the hotel room: other than not being able to enjoy natural light, there is no outlet in the bathroom, and no storage: the 3 tiny drawers are filled with a hairdryer and bedding. The "closet" is a curtain rod with no door. I do not recommend this place.
