Amazing location, close to union square bart station, all great shopping centers and amazing restaurants. the hotel was old, no renovations which is ok and why it is an inexpensive place despite its great location, the room was clean, but there was no proper AC, there was a constant super strong and very unpleasant odor from the kitchen and cooking in my room. the hosts were very kind to offer to change my room but it was super late and having that the entire building was old with no AC I don’t think it would have make a difference. Not sure if I should recommend this hotel, upon booking at least make sure you get a room that does not have the odor issues I experienced. Also there was a constant water drip in the toilet and lots of noise from the building - not sure what that noise was coming from. No hair dryers, but there were hand wash liquids, shampoo, body wash and conditioner.

Pros: ideal location, walkable to various points of interest, easy access to public transportation, the hotel has their own restaurant/bar - the food is good and they brew their own beer which is worth trying. Cons: Check-in was at a different hotel & there’s no concierge or staff at this location. Room was clean but very basic with no amenities. Bedding and mattress could use upgrading. The hotel appears to be using cheap/diluted shampoo, conditioner, body soap, and hand soap. Unprofessional cleaning staff - one walked in at 8:30am without knocking and then lied about it. They charge $50 for late checkout.

Overall I enjoyed this property and would stay again. A few things... 1) they did not have front desk staff and you had to go to a different hotel (just around the corner) to check in. Maybe it says it on the website but I missed it. 2) Because of this it wasn't super easy to call for help. Where I stayed, there was a small fork in the hotel, and you went down a separate, small hallway to get to my room. The light was out in this hallway, which made it super dark. I tried to figure out how to call to ask for it to be fixed but it wasn't readily apparent so I gave up and just used the flashlight on my phone when I went down the hallway. Otherwise, great location, and pretty quiet too. There is a brewery/bar on the ground floor that I wish I had time to try.

The area was nice and the hotel itself was clean. It was nice how there was a bar in the same building and the security was great. However, the walls were paper thin so you could hear everything, the bed was super uncomfortable and it was suppose to be queen bed but it was definitely a twin. I would suggest they upgrade their beds and put an actual comforter not just a sheet.
