I was solo this trip but have stayed here with my husband several times over the past 6 years. It is centrally located for my Porter flights, Via Rail, and the Hugh’s Room Live shows that I usually attend. I can cook a quick meal or walk to several restaurants within 10 minutes, or sit in a lovely park just across the street. It has both 24 hour front desk and a key only secure front door evenings, so I feel safe when I’m alone. The front desk staff are polite and very friendly, easy to deal with. The rooms could maybe be updated, and the bathrooms are quite worn out, but it is always very clean, the price is very reasonable and I’ll continue to book at the Alexandra Hotel whenever possible.

You're unwelcome
I stayed one night for a work trip. On the good side, the room was clean and comfortable, but on the bad side the condition of the room was on the level of plaster falling off the walls and although dishes and a microwave oven were available, there was no dish-washing liquid. Coffee machine was available from the reception with a $10 deposit, but no coffee pods nor tea, so why to pay the deposit for the machine? The receptionist who did the check-in for me was nice and friendly, letting me know that there was coffee available in the office for 24 hours, but in the morning the office door was closed (which felt unwelcome), and when I got in, it turned out that the coffee wasn't free and the receptionist even doubled the price of coffee, because I brought a cup from the room and it was a bit bigger than the plastic cups they provided at the office. The office door was closed again when I went to do the check-out later on. It would be nice to have at least a sign welcoming the guests to knock if the door is closed. I would have filled a feedback form that was available in the room but the pen they provided was dry. Wouldn't recommend this place for a friend if there are any other options.

We were very taken aback realizing this was some sort of subsidized housing area with rooms dedicated to outsiders. I may be wrong about this but its definitely what it seemed like . The woman on staff was eager to get us settled in even though it was an hour ahead of check in and our room on the 6th floor was very clean but definitely out dated. The beds were comfortable. We were there for a baseball game so after dropping our things and heading out at 3pm, we didnt return until !!:30. I suppose I just wish we knew what we were getting into, it was a bit unsettling .
