I think Hotel 140 is a great spot, nice hotel. What appears to be the problem is that they seem understaffed or harried----not enough time to deal with issues or even answer the phone. Another problem was I had made a reservation months ago for a room with 2 beds. There were 3 of us in the room, and we all wanted to be together. When we arrived right on time they had given our room away and split us up between two smaller rooms. Why would they do that? Who was more important that they deserved our room? What was the point of the reservation but to hold the room for US? Another issue was the fridge in our room. It didn't appear to work and neither did the only ice machine in the whole hotel. We're talking summer and lukewarm water bottles! C'mon guys, get with it. I tried calling the desk to ask about getting help with our fridge, and there was no answer. I went down, to find no one at the desk. Just empty. For a while. Who's running this hotel? The breakfast was nice, and the rooms were nice. No complaints about that. Good price. But those other things frustrated us just a tad.....

Poor 2.0
Terrible, do not book!
This place is an absolute nightmare. Everything we asked for was denied or reluctantly agreed to while positioning it as a favor. Some of the things we dealt with: - Being charged $15 per package we received prior to arrival (I needed to get Expedia involved in this). I've never seen a hotel charge for package-receipt and I have studied hotel management. - I noticed that they offered small bottles of water at the front desk to guests. I was told initially by a bigger, black lady when I asked for some (I'm 27 weeks pregnant) that 'hmmm...ok, but these are just for arrival'. When I asked her another time she refused to give me any. Mind you, these are tiny bottles of water that they probably get at 20 cents each! My discussion with her also escalated when I reminded her that this is basic customer service 101 and that she should know how to better treat customers. I ended up leaving, feeling really stressed out and my mood was ruined for the day. Not fun while pregnant and jetlagged. The same evening I called the front desk to ask about tap water quality and another agent offered 4 bottles voluntarily! - The rooms were partially cleaned as I still saw hair from my last shower in the shower drain. - Another of the front desk agents seemed exremely unprofessional and he and pretty much most other employees I encountered, except for cleaning staff, seemed to take on a colloquial, conversation tone when speaking with customers. So much more to share but not enough space.

Very Good 8.0
No-frills, but fantastic for the location & price!
Small rooms (it's a former YWCA), but that's to be expected in a hotel in this area. Their remodel is very nice. When there I witnessed the staff have to deal first with a very, very needy customer and a second time with a guy complaining about his room and demanding in a very rude manner that he be given a better one. In both cases the staff were very patient and professional, so kudos for that. The breakfast is basic but gets the job done. (Personally I would just go across the street to the bakery there, it's fantastic!) Parking is kind of a pain––there is a garage next door, but it's $30/day to use it. I wish the hotel would work out a deal to make it cheaper or free for guests. In short, thumbs up if you just need a place to crash at night because you're out enjoying the city all day! Copley Square is a great "home base" for sightseeing––you're right next to the Orange Line and a short walk to the Green Line subway stops. Go one direction and you're enjoying the Back Bay, another takes you to the Fenway/museums area, a third and you're at the Public Garden and downtown.

Poor 2.0
I was very disappointed in the Hotel 140 for the following reasons. 1. The staff at the reception desk gave the impression that our business was a bit of a pain. When we asked for information it was given but only in a short sentence and without the empathy or a smile to express that they were trying to make our stay in Boston better. 2. The room is small and quite expensive, I understand this is a downtown hotel and have stayed in smaller rooms in Europe but in the bathroom there is no place to put any toiletries so I had to place them on the floor and reach down each time I needed my tooth brush or my razor. This was more of an inconvenience for my wife. Also who wants to put a bag down on the floor of a bathroom. 3. You needed a key to use the elevator, which was fine, I liked the security, but the same key was needed again on the floor to enter the small coffee room. The only place to sit on the floor as there was little room in the bedroom. It seemed overkill to me as the only thing that could have been taken is a Keurig machine an a few “K” cups. 4. Although they offer a complimentary breakfast on the second floor it was the worst I have ever attended. I prefer a warm breakfast so my comments should be taken with this stated. But, the cold breakfast was also poor, a few sweet pastries (not good) some yoghurt and a cold boiled egg and a little fruit. With what was offered, I suggest the hotel just eliminate it all together. 5. There is no place to sit in the l

Mixed residence, mixed feelings
Stayed here with my wife on a 5 day visit to Boston. It was at a great location for a good price. From and to the airport was especially convenient from Back bay station practically next door. Besides the location, generally my impression of the hotel is mixed. As opposed to coffee machines in each room, coffee needs are served by a common lounge on lv7, which I think is a great idea. Our queen room was cozy, but enough. TV was rather small. Mixed feeling for breakfast as well; a very good variety of tasty pastries, but no hot food. On some days you just wish you have that savory option to take away the sweetness of the pastries. There is a guest laundry, which is shared with residences at the same building, so it’s a little busy. Need to fork out $5 to buy a laundry card, non refundable and no credit on purchase. You can only recharge with minimum $5 bills, no change available at front desk. It also takes $2 to wash a load and $2 to dry, so altogether we spend $10 on the laundry card with $1 stuck in the card. Would be much better if the hotel has a laundry card lending service for guests instead. There is also a theatre located in the same building whose box office is the breakfast area. Altogether it makes this an interesting place to stay in, and it can really a little more to make itself a great place.
