Great location, comfy bed & yummy breakfast!
Hands down best hotel during my entire trip! The bed was SOOO comfy and the room was adorable :D The breakfast was included in the price when we stayed and was also very delicious! You had cold breakfast options of meats, cheeses, muffins, fruit, etc as well as hot cooked breakfast options which were all very yummy. The only downside is that there is no lift in the building so carrying a giant suitcase up two flights of stairs proved a bit difficult - otherwise great hotel! Would definitely stay again!

Pleasant Surprise
This is a renovated student residence that is part of the University of Edinburgh. That being said, it is not a fancy hotel like accommodation. However, the rooms are very clean, staff are available on site and there is a good warm breakfast served everyday. There is housekeeping as well. I loved my stay here because it is away from the city center (about a 10 minute walk) and is an actual neighborhood with lots of shops, like groceries, close by and a nice pub across the street where locals go. Guests should know there is no life or A/C, but I was here in July and there was definitely no need for it. You will want to take a cab if you come in to the train station, as it is an uphill walk but it should only cost about 7 pounds. It is also very reasonably priced for this city. I really enjoyed my stay here.

Great bargain and location
The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. They were very accommodating in letting me check in early. I stayed in a single room while visiting friends. The room was simple but had all the basic amenities you would need. The bathroom was on the smallish side might be the only drawback. They offered a very nice breakfast too. Location is great, easy walking distance from the Royal Mile, university, and bus lines.

Great place, great breakfast, parking a problem however. People there could not have been more helpful. it was a bit more expensive than Pollock Halls; but location and en suite made up for that.

Great Location & Breakfast!
Kenneth Mackenzie is a fantastic place to stay in Edinburgh. It's location alone makes it an ideal place to stay when you are in the city. It is a short walk from everywhere - the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, Arthur's Seat, Holyrood Park, etc. There is no place to park your car there but you don't need one when you stay. We walked everywhere while here and it was fantastic. The room was very nice and clean and the bed was comfy and there was excellent water pressure in the shower. The entire staff at Kenneth Mackenzie were nice and extremely helpful - we felt very welcome our entire stay. I was blown away by the breakfasts - lots of variety and so delicious! I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
