We enjoyed our stopover here
We enjoyed our stopover for one night at The Grey St hotel. The staff were friendly. The hotel is being refurbished. Areas that have been updated were very good. Some shabby areas such as the staircase. We were hoping to eat at the hotel but they were fully booked. We did find a Pizza Express just a short walk away which my son appreciated.

Great hotel, lovely decor, service and location
The room was lovely and comfortable, really well decorated and service was fantastic with the two staff members on the front desk being very helpful. The only negatives were very small: the emergency exit light was extremely bright in the room when trying to sleep, the hotel didn't offer any (hypoallergenic) alternative to the feather pillows and my room was right by an extractor, which felt noisy at first but I got used to it. Overall a lovely place to stay and i'd definitely choose it again.

Grey Street Hotel, Newcastle-upon-Tyne
Great location let down by poor service
The hotel is situated on the corner of grey street and is very central for both the night time economy and shopping. The booking in process wasn’t great and it was slow and the receptionist was chatting on the phone. We had a room overlooking Grey Street which means that it was noisy until the early hours as there are numerous pubs/clubs near. The main issue for us was not the noise as we expected that but the lack of heating. The air conditioning was not on so it was really cold and we were told when we asked that the heating was off as there was a problem on the front rooms. Why didn’t they tell us that when we booked in? We had to get a portable heater which we struggled to regulate. Would we stay again - yes but that’s because of the great location rather than the quality of the hotel.
